Meet Ollie, the Rescue Roo

He's got 8 cornish cross pullets all to himself and they want nothing to do with him. The girls are just learning to dustbathe and have no time for romance.

All my rescue meaties lived to be about 2 years. As noted, their large size intimidated my hens but Mr. Banty Pants the resident banty rose comb rooster had no issues about challenging the giants. He looked like a black humming bird darting around a large white flower when he attacked them. The meaties couldn't see well enough to fight him so they would hobble away like a crippled quarter- back having leg cramps. Such big goofy birds!

My turken cockerel tries to mate the meatie pullets. Holding onto their necks with his beak, his behind comes to about mid-back on them. DH saw him trying to mate one and said "good luck with that one, son."

14 pounds. I'll not mention what I'm thinking cause I do have some sensitivity and I know how you feel about your chickens..

I remember a neighbor that had a prize holstein bull that weighed over a ton. He was not allowed out in the pasture with the cows. When his services were required, the cow was put in a specially built "stand" so none of the bull's weight was on the cow. How good a carpenter is Keith?

As I've said before, I think you got yourself a keeper in Keith. He seems to have the right attitude and a way with words.

And I treat him like a king.
I'm not too worried about that particular "issue" with Ollie because I've seen his attempts. He'll walk up to a pullet, grab her by the neck, lift one foot about 2 inches off the ground and then....stop and let go. It's like he can't remember what the next step is. I imagine his mindset at that point is something like mine when I'm searching for my car keys or glasses. He knows he's looking for something, but just can't recall what it is.
