Peppercorn is a chick hatched by Pepper the duck! She hatched him in about 17 days.

Pepper is the black Caguya duck.

17 days wow! keep us updated

Such a healthy chick! Within like 30 minuets of hatching it jumped out of the container I had him in before putting him with my two 17 day old chicks. The two I hatched in the incubator took several hours to dry and begin being chicks. Peppercorn was ready to get life started!

Her: The brown and black is a red sexlink pullet. (Incubator hatched on day 21)

Him: The very light yellow and black is a red sexlink cockerel. (Incubator hatched on day 22)

Peppercorn: The cute fuzz ball is a full light brahma so I don’t know the gender yet. (duck hatched on day 17)

Both Him and Her have accepted Peppercorn. They don’t pick on her or anything. I thought Her might attack Peppercorn because she is a very dominant pullet but she didn’t attack, instead she protects Peppercorn. Her does peck Him, though.

So cute :love I have a light Braham hen she is almost 9yrs old has a wonderful personality great all round chicken.
Glad they all get along.

We have 1 RIR hen, 3 Light Brahma hens, 2 Light Brahma roos, Caguya duck, 2 red sexlink chicks (pullet and cockerel), a red sexlink pullet and now a full Brahma chick.

I love the Brahmas. They are so sweet. My favorite chicken is Shoulders. A Light Brahma roo. I hope he’s the dad of Peppercorn.

Out of 4 hens I thought one of them would be broody. But only the duck is haha. She is my chicken egg hatcher, now.

My Brahma or I should say all the Brahma hens I have had never went broody, the only one I have now still likes to go in and sit on someone else egg but that is it. She'll come out singing the egg song and take responsibility for laying it too.

Sounds like you have a nice group there and a built in incubator too. :thumbsup

The only downside is that none of the chickens or the duck will use the coop. Only one hen lays her eggs in the coop but nobody sleeps there. They hate the coop and sleep on the porch instead... they get full range of the backyard all day and night. No light on the porch either but both flocks we’ve had choose to sleep on the porch. It’s not even covered.

The dog eats most of the eggs except the ones in the coop. She eats the eggs I put in the duck nest. Then the duck gets mad and digs holes by the house right up against the foundation. The duck made her nest in patch of thorns so I thought it would keep my dog from getting the eggs but no.
