This is Phoenix, my almost 2 year old Red Laced Wyandotte hen. She's absolutely massive, weighing in at 8.5 pounds. We did not overfeed her to our knowledge (the other hens we raised her with are average size), I guess she's just naturally this big. Bit surprised since the hatchery said Red Laced Wyandottes are an average of only 6.5 pounds. None of my other hens come even close to her, second place goes to my 6.5 pound hen named Hennifer. Despite her size, Phoenix is actually pretty far down in the pecking order, because she's very docile and young compared to my other hens. She used to peck me when I would pass by her roost in the evening, but after applying some corrective behavior she is now bows submission on the regular. Her 2nd birthday is on April 1st, so naturally she will be spoiled with some extra mealworms.
Have any of you had any abnormally large hens?
