I did the free ranging this weekend on Sat and Sun....the little girl is a brave little thing...she hangs out with the big girls more than my other "small pullet" that is actually bigger than her. The little girl is only pecked by the "boss" hen now and only if she gets too close! lol.....so, so far so good...
The dogs thing....I can't do that yet...My lab is good, but my sheperd/hound mix..as soon as the chickens start going crazy she thinks they want to play with her and start chasing them! lol...so that wouldn't work!
Introduce him to a mean/protective hen (or roo), then he's never go after them again! I love my RIR Milly for that
Also I'll tackle my dog if he goes too mad around the chickens, he's still at teenage stage and he does crazy laps of the garden for no reason and because he's 40 kilos he would crush one of them if they got in his way! Doesn't listen so I tackle him to the ground. I never smack him, just yell/growl then push him to the ground if he's really naughty or ignoring me, tackling gets him to the ground fast
I've done that with success w other dogs...just this one is SO crazy. I've had dogs my entire life, just never one like her...
I call her my coke head dog...she is always on speed or something...even after mile long runs...is crazy lol...so I got a crazy dog n a crazy pullet lol
