Meeting with USDA and county reps.

Hey Potter Watch,

Where are you in CA? We've been looking for a place to buy local quality chicken. Any chance you'd be close to Carlsbad?

This is wonderful news! It sounds to me that you will almost have a green light. I appreciate more than ever the trend where people are fighting their local Gov's to have a few hens for eggs, a small garden and be able to raise a few for meat as well. Big Agra ( Cargill, Monsanto, Con Agra) are fighting so hard to outlaw private industry with the claims that local pollen affects their crops or their "patented' pollen affects local crops and in turn, growers are 'stealing" patented pollen.. BYC is a HUGE place with I have NO idea how many members per state, but we all have a voice to stop having our rights taken away daily, or stop being "charged" for everything we do, unitl we can't afford to do it any more. It's only a matter of time that their lobbyests figure out a way to blame locally grown food on food borne pathogens, never mind the fact that in the past decade there have been more meat recalls on industrial produced meat than ever before..It's long been proven that home grown food is more nutritious, lower in antibiotics, E.Coli, Salmonella and other bad things that the high stress/high volume meat processing plant.
The Locavore movement can't grow fast enough in my opinion. We as consumers help to sway these Hi-Volume conglomerates by our wallets. Buy if you like it and approve of their practices.. Don't if you're not happy. If enough people stop buying items that are unethical/ unhealthy.. The corps will get the picture. In the mean time.. spread the word.. get those chickens started, get the garden started.. get back to basics and be healthier for it!
I am soo happy for you!

Thanks blue! We are very happy with how it has gone so far. We have some of our equipment ready and hope to get our first batch of chicks in May.

Sue, the farm is in Moreno Valley. We will be selling at Riverside County farmers markets (not entirely sure which ones at this point), and may get into some north SD county markets if we have enough birds to support it.
