Anyone have any pictures/videos of any chickens either as chicks or that they no longer have? Post your memories here!
I have a video of two chicks I was given! They got a field trip, it’s the first time they’ve been outside their entire life! I still have the smaller one, the bigger one died recently. Chickens make such strong connections with each other! The smaller one just hasn’t acted the same since his friends been gone. I’m breathing hard because I took off at a sprint to get my phone to record when I noticed them doing this! xD

That's so sweet :love& so sad.:hitAre you going to get some hens to keep him company?
I had gotten him and three other hicks free when I bought a few adults. Two of the hicks died young, and the other two grew up in the same pen, seperated from the others. I slowly introduced him to the others, and he shares a pen with 2 hens and an older rooster. (The BEST thing about Moderns, is you don’t have to worry about the Roos fighting to kill! They don’t do it! So they can be penned together!)

OH MY GOODNESS!!! YOU HAVE MODERNS?
I posted a few days ago looking to buy some modern eggs to hatch-can't find them anywhere. I am obsessed with the breed, love them so much!
(OK-here's where I start to sound like a crazy chicken lady...)
I had a sweet~AMAZING~little modern named Nugget that we hatched from an egg that arrived with a hairline crack. We read on line that you could paint the crack with clear nail polish & sometimes they would survive & hatch...Nugget hatched, (with lots of assistance from me) and became my favorite little buddy. She followed me everywhere, came-literally RAN TO ME when I called her, slept in my pocket while I did chores, just wanted to be with me /on me at all times. I was head over heels for this little thing. She got really sick, they diagnosed her with Mareks. I spent hundreds of dollars at the vet trying to get her better ( before Mareks was confirmed) but she was suffering & I had to put her down. I was heartbroken-seriously heartbroken.
Anyway, sorry for the LOOONG story! I would absolutely love to hatch a few more. Would you be willing to sell me some eggs?
I almost cried when I saw your video! THANK YOU!!

That’s SO sweet!! The two babies in the vid grew up sweet to!! So much calmer than the others! I’d LOVE to sell you some eggs, but it’s have to be in the future! I’m in the middle of a breeding project, and keeping all eggs! But I will definitely let you know when I have some! Most likely later this year! Where are you located?

Oh, Ok.
If you could let me know when you are ready I would love to buy a couple eggs.
I actually do have a male (Peppa) and a female (Perianna) that we hatched in July but she is not laying yet...and Peppa has a bad foot so I don't even know if he's capable of fertilizing. I would be over the moon if I could hatch a couple of my own.
In your experience, do Moderns start laying later than other standard breeds? They are not overly friendly with one another- it doesn't seem like they have a "love connection" ❤️❤️
Have a great weekend!

Sure! I may just give you a few! A get one or two from each bird a week, so I’ll have plenty extra when I’m done! I got my pullers at about 5 months old in August, and they just started laying this winter, so I’d assume about 9 months? Not to sure though!:idunno:plbb
As for “Love connection” it depends on the bird! Most hens are very close to each other, and roos seem to be more seperated. But, there’s always an exception! My cock Mufasa seems like a bodyguard, very protective of his hens, but not very attached. then my other younger cock is closer to the hens, almost like a brother. Then I had the two chicks grow up, but while B.B is still different, and kinda detached, he seems to have a love connection with the hens, even though he doesn’t breed hem. He’s always sitting with them, eating only when they are done, and cuddling.
You too with the weekend! I’m VERY busy!! I start tomorrow off with a 6:00-9:00 am shift for an event at a Resturaunt where I’m serving breakfast, then I’m going to a basketball game, then I have plans that night... THEN soccer Sunday!! I think Monday is my only non busy day off in a LONG time! Chicken time!!:lau:celebrate:yesss:
