Men and chickens.

Pics
Most men I know work for a living. By the time they get home from work, it's dark and not much time for chickens except maybe on weekends or holidays. Alot of retirees work as well, full time or part time.
Alot of women I know work as well to help support their family. How they find time to take care of chickens is short of a miracle.
How about the 17 guys you know that keep chickens, are they BYC members? If not, invite them to join BYC!

These guys and the one women work for a living as well.;)
Most are farmers and smallholders. A couple are builders.
I have shown the site to 4 of them now. None are members of BYC.

I'm a male who likes poultry. But, in addition I'm drawn to the challenge of designing and building a better coop, laying out fencing, defeating predators, fine tuning the incubator, plumbing a more efficient watering system, etc. In other words I'm always on a mission. I think if more men knew with poultry they get to play engineer, electrician, carpenter, plumber, and defender of flock they would love to be involved. I come to BYC to fine tune those skills.

When I married my hubby 12 yrs. ago, his son was about 13. Over the next few yrs., hubby and I and his youngest daughter watched a lot of football together, but when I asked his son why he didn't seem interested, he said, "It's something I want to do, not watch." That statement stuck with me. Hmmm! :)

That's what I would guess also.

Is there any hard data on the gender make up of BYC or other sites?
I'm basing my assertion on a rough estimate from the members list.
Many state their gender. Others you can guess from their profile pages.
I have a rough estimate of 85% female, 15% male taken from the top 200 profiles.

The members of BYC are predominantly female. Why is this?
Where I live out of the 18 people I know who keep chickens 17 are men.
I would like to see a better balance. What could be done to attract more men to BYC?
We don't intend to talk much. so we really don't talk much about them, but we love our chicken in any kind of cooking method there is out there :lau
