Mental Health?

I need to copy off all these responses, I feel sooo much better already. SpottedCrow, I need a bumpersticker! Marlinchaser-gee, my chicks say the same thing! Coop in the front yard, sounds good to me, my horses graze my front yard.Who needs lawn when it could be pasture. I think I'll tell my daughter that she's jealous. And yes, it feels like therapy, relaxing and having birds climb all over you. I wonder if my JGiants will ever think they are too big for me.
Absolutely true- thou should not care what other people think . And yes, I consider myself a bit weird, but I'm old enough now to be weird without permission.
I'm sure my 4 chickens, 9 finches, 2 dogs, a horse and a mule will keep me from going crazy, I think.
hsm5girls: I'm very happy for you for deciding after 9 years to do it! Now, about the ducks being next year's addition: did you mean addiction???? I guess I have always been a closet hobby farmer, LOL
"PASSIONATE ABOUT MY ADVENTURES", I will never call myself obsessive about my hobbies, I will now refer to myself as passionate about my adventures.
You are sooo right, I am not hurting anyone, or anything in any way whatsoever. Thankyouthankyouthankyou

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Several of my lady friends are telling me that I'm nuts having the chickens. I think they are jealous that I spend more time with the chickens than out running the streets shopping etc. with them. Sure doesn't stop them from asking me for eggs however....

How old is your daughter? When my stepdaughters reached a certain age (about 20 or so) they figured that their great life experiences and maturity gave them the insight to tell us what our problems were and how to fix them.

Yes, me too, I spend more time with the chicks and the horses and the dogs than shopping with the girls .

My daughter is 28, 3 kids, hubby, living in Yuma Arizona. She thinks I spend too much time with my "adventures". Funny, I don't ever recall sticking my nose in her business, I am just there for support. Maybe I'll go out to the coop and ask the girls what they think is up with my daughter.

My older son came up to visit awhile back to meet my birds and he told his dad that he hadn't seen me this happy in years. Yep, it's my chicken-girls..and guys, too. Gotta do what I gotta do to keep my sanity!

My 16 year old wanted to raise a chick or two for homeschool... ag science. She picked out 4 and I added several more and then several more and then several more. Man they are cute and irresistable as chicks. I built two coops for them and get so much enjoyment every day from them I don't know how to put it in words. I literally jump out of bed in the am to let them out of the coop. I no longer lay in bed and concentrate on my pain (physical or emotional.... cancer... divorce....) No, I can't wait to see my girls and give them their oatmeal breakfast out my hands. I could sit in the yard for hours and watch them dust bathe, peck, groom, eat worms, dust bathe, run around, stretch in the sun... etc.... I can't wait to give them their cracked corn in the pm out my hand as I tell them goodnight and close the door to the coop. It IS very therapeutic to get outside of ourselves and be involved with the care and love and nurture of animals. It is a blessing in my life that I don't take for granted and won't let anyone diminish because they don't get it.
