Mental Health?

I should tell my shrink that he outa be prescribing chickens instead of antidepressants! I have both and right now I am one happy cucumber!

Beebiz, thanks for sharing. I'm sure your chickens are happy to have you. When life is overwhelming, we all need to have some simplicity in our lives, and our relationship with the chickens is a simple basic no strings non demanding type of peace.
I once read that contentment is achieved by submersing yourself in nature, gardening, animals. Walk the trails, get your hands dirty in the garden, relate with animals. It does make you feel content.

WOW, you hit the proverbial nail square on the head!!!! I don't believe that a "professional" philosopher could have put it any better!

I have family members who simply don't understand why I persist in keeping my chickens and growing a garden (vegetable and flower). "I don't know why in this world you won't just sit down and take it easy," some like to tell me. And, in some cases, I'm told that a lot more than I care to hear!! This past summer, I even had one family member tell me that if I didn't stay out of that "d@mned" garden I was going to have a heart attack and die in it! I told him that I couldn't imagine a better place to die. "Then," I said "cover me over with dirt, in a few weeks till me in, and next summer I will return through the tomatoes, okra, green beans, and so on!" Somehow, he couldn't appreciate the humor in that!

If you don't mind, I'd like to print out what you said and give each of them a copy of it. Then, maybe they can better understand the method to my madness!

No problem , print me out! At least if someone died in a garden, they would probably have a smile on their face, unlike all the other nasty deaths out there.
Gardens are great, I love mine but its only ornamental stuff, maybe tomatoes next year. Karen
