mesquitos & their larvae

Chickens eat adult mosquitoes, so I've never worried about them ingesting an occational larvae.

If you change any water source at least once a week, it will keep the larvae from developing into adults. It takes them something like ten days to go from egg to adult. Just remember to change any standing water every weekend and you are all set!

Clogged rain gutters are a commonly overlooked place that they can breed, also.

someone already mentioned it...but the easiest thing is to put a goldfish in the trough. Yea...Bt is not a chemical, but just because it's not a chemical doesn't mean it's a great idea for everyone.

West Nile Virus is a serious thing that is carried by mosquitos, and all the people I know with horses and cows use goldfish to keep the mosquito larvae out. No larvae= no future adults!

We have a veggie filter pond for our koi pond and we put rosie reds in there. They stay very small and are quite hardy. We wanted something to eat mosquito larvae that wouldn't disturb the plants.
