Messy eggs?

I use pine shavings because that’s all I had last time I put them in there. Most of the time I use straw.
The chicken stands up just as the egg pops out, so the egg drops about 4 inches.
If there's not enough shavings or straw, the pointy end of the egg may get a hole or crack.
The nests need a 3 to 4 inch lip to contain the shavings.
I don’t ever find a broken egg shell but I’ll occasionally get a cracked egg
Chickens love to eat egg shells, so you may only find the liquid in the nest, which gets all over the other eggs. GC

I don’t even know how to describe it. It’s like maybe some contents of egg and a bunch of feathers and shavings get stuck to it. The next time I get one I’ll post a picture on here. And it’s not just one egg either it’s all the eggs in the nesting box!
A broken egg will make a mess for sure, and you may see some yolk and albumen on other eggs but will have to dig down into bedding to find the rest of it(which you definitely should so if you see egg contents on eggs or bedding).

Eggs emerge from the vent still wet with the bloom, many dry quickly but bedding/feathers can stick to them before they dry....some birds have excessive bloom, which can take much longer to dry and thus attract more 'dirt' before they dry.
It's a pretty rare day that I won't have to peel a feather or pieces of straw off at least one egg.
....and like I said before rainy/snowy day make for dirty feet walking on eggs in nest.

Are you feeding a layer type feed and are you making crushed oyster shell abailable in a separate container to help their egg shells be strong? I have had a couple who laid thin egg shells and all the hens would know to wait patiently and crack them open and egg the contents. You might want to check your nestboxes more often for awhile to see who is doing what. A gamecam is also good to see what is happening in the coop.

No I feed chick starter (reasons stated previously) with oyster shells. Mostly every egg that we crack though has a thick shell (for an egg). Do you know where I can purchase a gamecam?

The few on the top are the messy eggs I was speaking of. Got these the day before yesterday

Thats egg yolk goo....
I imagine the nest box also is a mess.
Do you have fake eggs or golf balls on each nest box? I highly recomend this.
If you have hens eating eggs, gathering the eggs more often if possible, making the nest boxes darker so they are not so visable may help.
If you identify an egg eater, put a pair of pinless peepers on her for a while, it may help.
