My 8 girls are growing up so fast! They are 13 weeks old. They have been using the smaller waterer & feeder that I have, but I want to switch them to bigger ones. Mostly so I am not refilling their water & feed twice a day. I spent a ridiculous amount of time at Tractor Supply looking at their somewhat limited options. I was considering this 2 gallon metal drinker, https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/harris-farms-2-gal-double-wall-drinker. But then when I checked out the matching feeder, I saw that there is no lid. I plan on having both in their run so as not to take up space in the coop. Anyone use these feeders &/or waterers? Any thoughts on them? Do they rust?

I also was looking at these but they are pretty pricey. https://www.royal-rooster.com/twin-cup-drinker-and-feeder-set.html

We have the Harris Farms double wall waterer, a 5 gallon one. We used it all last summer, all through the winter on the heated base, and now back in the run. It has been good. It has a little rust inside from a seam or something, but otherwise in perfectly fine condition. We scrub it out (particularly the water tray) every so often. But we have it up on blocks to minimize the dirt they fling when dust bathing.

we use the plastic 7 lb hanging feeder by Harris Farms. 2 pieces, easy to clean, inexpensive and available. We hang it at back height of the birds so that will minimize flinging out feed. You should have a protected area for the feed anyway, irregardless of the feeder style.

What’s your climate like? Where, in general, are you located?

I’m in Delaware, so fairly rainy & cold winters & hot summers. We plan on covering the run with metal but for now it is hardware cloth only.

Until the roof goes on, try to piece together a feed shelter using the run posts and scrap wood or metal or plastic. Alternatively, you can put feed and water in the coop to keep it dry.

Nice looking coop and run space. You are wise to put on a cover over the run to deter aerial predators.

I have a 2 gallon and a 3 gallon galvanized waterer. I got both at an independent farm and feed store made by little giant. I set them on a heated base during the winter
The first one I got 4 years ago, I caused it to rust quicker than it would have by cleaning with vinegar several times and noticed it was changing color.
I found out that vinegar destroys the galvanized finish.
I still have as a backup, it doesn't leak.

I also have a 12 and a 15 lb galvanized feeder.
The covers I also got at the independent farm and feed. The cover doesn't keep out rain, only chickens and works with a hanging feeder.
