Hello! I am planning for my first chickens (probably will get them early spring 2021). So I have this old metal shed and a perfect spot for a run and everything. This year I planted a peach tree which will take a few years before it provides much shade. I live in the high desert and temps can reach 100 in the summer. I am concerned that the shed is in the sun most all day and would get too hot. I actually was thinking about getting an EZ up to place over the shed for more shade. Is that silly or not a good idea? I don't want to start with square one determining a location and figuring out how to build a coop, but I don't want the chickens in tooo much heat.
any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!! :wee

Can you post pics of the shed so we can see how it is constructed? I know there are several variations out there.

Heat.....yes that is an issue in summer.....in winter condensation, lack of ventilation and resulting frostbite are pretty serious too.

What part of the world are you located in?
Winter weather?

X2 what @21hens-incharge said. There are many, very smart people who can help you with this but we need more information. Warning, you will probably get many very smart differnet opinions also.

High desert Wyoming? high desert Nevada? it makes a difference in what you would want to do.
I am assuming that an EZ-up is a canopy? It would probably work nice to shade the coop and part of the run, do you have to worry about high winds in your area?

Are you in a residential area, or are you rural?

Not sure about the ez up, might fit over a metal shed.

Wonders about the peach tree, is it in the run area...or next to it?
Best to have a roof over the run for shade.....or at least mesh roof to keep birds in a preds out.

Here a great thread about a metal shed to coop build in a hot climate:
