Method to get the chickens to go into their coop at night?

Persistence on your part will pay off. Be consistent and keep putting them in until they "get it". The only exception to this is if there is some serious failure regarding your coop and it not having the ability to meet their roosting/feeling of security needs. I think it's rare that that's the case and more common that they simply don't know that the coop is home base and where they can expect to be safe during the most vulnerable time.

If you lock them in it and not let them out for a week, you don't have to put them back. I have a blind pullet and after locking her in with some of her mates she even knows how to to go back in. If you don't have a run you can always construct a makeshift run out of a little chicken wire, set up close to the pop door.

The lock down method works. Lock them in the coop for a week or two and this will become their home. Once you open the door to the outside they will venture out but always go back in on their own at night.

Tonight was the first night I went out to put them up and they were in their coop. Makes me happy. Almost like I've graduated them into "adult chickens"! Lol
How do u post pics on here? I've got some but not sure how to post them. Thanks

was out late tonight and didnt get to "put" them to bed. When we got home 6 of the 8 had found their way into the coop, but the other 2 were huddled in the corner together, I guess at least they werent alone and had each other to keep warm. Put them in and closed the door. Hopefully next time all 8 get it.

Click the insert image button in the toolbar above the text box where you type replies. It's the 5th button to the left of the smiley face. It should be self-explanatory once you click it.
