Metronidazole dosage for turkeys??

For the last 4 days or so I have been treating with cayenne pepper (out of desperation waiting for the med. to arrive) and I must say that with that they have improved tremendously. But I feel that I want to use the "big guns" approach because my turkey babies are so precious to me/us. And I want to make for sure that they are out of the woods. They are eating, better now because of the pepper. They are not for food, and only pets as are the chickens. I enjoy all my outside critters so much. Thanks for taking the time to help me. I`m ordering the worming as soon as I post this. I want my guys to have everything they need.

Ok, confused, fenbendazole is sold for horses, dogs, cats, fish etc... how do I buy it, is it just for chickens/turkeys? What type do I get for chickens and turkeys?
It's in the horse and cattle section of most feedstores and sold as Safeguard or Panacur. You can use the liquid or paste - 1ml of either has 100mg of medicine in it. Don't let the label confuse you, the stuff sold for livestock and horses are all the same 10% fenbendazole.

FWIW, my year old BBW turkey gets 7.5ml, but she weighs 15kg (33 pounds), my Royal Palms and Eastern Wild get 2-3ml.

Can you worm chickens with the same stuff? Thanks for taking the time to answer I really appreciate the info.

Just thought I should add that I have given my poults and peachicks metronidazole up to 60mg/kg, so I think it's pretty safe. If you don't see improvement in 2-3 days, you might also have to treat for a secondary infection.

I was wondering about that until I read your post. I wondered what a "safe" dose could be. I have the 250 mg tabs at home, so if I needed to use it on mine, I would have cut it in at least 4. 5 pieces would be tricky.

I cut my pills into quarters, its not really hard. I used my cat and dog piller to give the pills. Its so easy they just sit in my lap, I pry open the beaks and insert the piller. Its much easier then smashing the pills and mixing and squirting in the nasty stuff.

edit to add the link so you can see what I`m talking about. However I bought mine from my vet, but its the same thing. The end is a very soft rubber and it really grips the pill. So easy to use.
