Mexican Stand Off.

I was watching them yesterday and there was a point where what I think in the Queen hen and her number two were both drinking next to each other.
Then they both raised their heads and just stared at each other, it went on for a good 2 minutes, none of them shifted their stare, the I'm not sure if it was a sound or what but she was the one that shifted her glance.
Nothing happened, I was expecting a a bit of a squabble even though these two are friends, I was wondering if it was going to be a pecking order change?

They may have both heard something that concerned them,
many birds will 'freeze' if they hear a predator(be it real or not).
