Meyer Hatchery 2 questions please

@Merrymouse
Ohhhhhh! I'm so sorry about losing all your chicks

I've dealt with Meyer & I'm sure they will make it right. I received free shipping on my replacement chicks last summer. Sorry for your loss

That is gut wrenching. I'm so sorry to see the end result, especially since they arrived today.
Sounds like some MAJOR mishandling from the post office. The only way you get cold hot packs and dead chicks is the worst possible handling from USPS.
Awful!

That's when you want to go find out who did it.

I received chicks from Ideal and Hoovers today and BOTH had cold, hard heat packs in them. With the chicks I received last month, from Ideal and Cackle, the heat packs were still toast. However, this week was much colder than when those others do I assume that's why.

I ordered 18 (3 black giant pullets, 3 salmon faverolle pullets, 3 amberlink pullets, 4 SR barnevelders, and 5 SR rare breeds) and received 18 from Hoovers. They were cold and huddled in groups in each corner of the box. One of the barnevelders is not doing well but I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I ordered 35 assorted bantams from Ideal and they sent 35 but one was dead and cold. Another died shortly after.

They are all under mama heating pads right now and I am giving them some time to get warm before I mess with them anymore.

When I went to pick them up at 630 obviously the PO was not open yet so she had me pick them up in the back in the warehouse part. There were so many boxes of peeping chicks everywhere! I was amazed considering we are rural, not a major hub, and on a peninsula.

ETA I was just back there for a few minutes but I did not notice anyone treating the chick boxes poorly or acting callous about them so I was happy about that. I mean they weren't treating them the way some of us or an animal lover would, but they did have a job to do and had to be fast and efficient but they were picking up and placing the boxes with a moderate level of care and not just tossing them around.

ETA#2: I just went and checked on them all. All but one of the bantams are doing okay. The one looks like he may be having trouble walking but it doesn't look like spraddle leg. He may have been squished :/ I dipped his beak a few times just to get water and electrolytes in him. The barnevelder was still looking poorly but I dipped its beak a few times and this time it perked up and stood up. He or she is not getting a bit of crumble, which is a great sign. However, now one of the Faverolles is a bit gaspy. I hate when they are like that because I know she needs more fluids but the risk of aspiration is high so I'll have to be careful with her. One of the rare breeds - either a light brahma or wheaten marans - is also a bit listless and weak suddenly. (sigh)

Let us know what you decide on hon, also Mypetchicken hatchery is apparently right over in CT, not sure what the shipping is though.

I just did a quick search and found this post from a previous Backyard Chicken thread. BB

"There are a couple of really long threads in the Hatcheries forum on Meyer chickens with lots of pictures https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/16/chicken-breeders-hatcheries My Pet Chicken is a drop shipper, not a hatchery, their chicks usually ship from Meyer."

Merrymouse, we've all been watching your story and planning on how to get you some sweet babies to replace the ones that should have been yours to love originally!

Please keep us in the loop on what happens!

Can confirm, Littles and I have been looking at hatcheries and trying to figure out how to help/send you new babies all day. We especially looked at assortments because we weren't sure what breeds you had in mind. (To be perfectly honest I'm only 5-6 hrs away from Massachusetts so I thought about getting some chicks from tsc and driving them up to you).
