Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

She doesn't have quite as dark spots as your girl.

Seems like this thread has gone pretty inactive lately so I guess now might be the perfect time to bring it back to life and to say....

I JUST ORDERED MY CHICKS LAST NIGHT FINALLY!!! :D

I know most people wait till spring but I wanted them now and I didn't want to wait till April (as I'm sure you guys know, Nov-Mar the minimum is 15 chicks and I don't need that many).

Hatch date is October 26th so just making the deadline to get the 3 chick min instead of 15. :p

I got 8 chicks plus the Meyer Meal Maker so 9 total unless they include peanuts.

I made a thread on it but I will say it here too so breeds are

2 Easter Eggers

2 Barred Rock

2 Black Australorp

2 Buff Orpington

1 Meyer Meal Maker

All female hopefully

So yeah, I'm pretty excited. :)

I wanted to get some Wyandottes (probably GLW, SLW, or BLRW) or Speckled Sussex but they didn't have any and they had less dates anyways (just 3, two this month and one the first week of next) so I didn't. But maybe next year. I'd also love to get different color Orpingtons too eventually. That will wait too. Don't even have em yet and I already have more chicken fever and chicken math kicking in LOL

I'm excited with what I'm getting though. :)

Hi, all. I know I haven't been terribly active here in the past months, but I thought I would stop by and let those of you who admired her through my pictures and stories that my beloved splash Marans Frou-Frou left us today. She was one of my first chicks from Meyer's and I loved her more than I have ever loved a hen before her. I am beside myself with grief at the moment, so apologies for the lack of detail. I'm just without the words right now.

Also very very sorry for the loss :( even though it's probably late now

Aw, thanks anyway! :) It has been a few weeks, but I think about her every day still.

Congrats on the future chicks! :D I'll have to go hunt down your thread to follow! Been thinking about getting chicks in the spring, myself, but I have some time to wait before I can order.

Not that it will help with your chicken math, but I have speckled Sussex from Meyer and they are such busybodies! But they're sweeties, anyway. This is the bigger of the two, Poggy, Ms. Stomach-on-legs:

Aww no problem! I somewhat know how you feel about thinking about her still, despite me never having chicks; some animals seem to stick with you more than others. For example, I never really think much about my old dog or cat, even though I loved them, but I still think about my rabbit consistently. It's weird how that works but I guess some animals make more of an impression than others. Anyways, very sorry.

And awww thank you!! I'm super excited, first flock haha I'll try to link you to the post :) You should definitely get more!

And awww she's beautiful. :)

I wanna try to go through the whole entire thread eventually but I haven't yet so I'm curious if anyone has those breeds? I think I may have asked before but I forget lol

Yes, that's exactly it! I lost my childhood dog 2 years ago, but that didn't stick with me like losing my Frou-Frou has... But anyway...

I do have some of the breeds you're getting, but not from Meyer. My Barreds are super pushy, always wanting to be first in line for attention, and my Easter-eggers are definitely varied, both in appearance and personality. We had an Australorp years ago, but I don't remember her very well. She was very soft-feathered and sweet, though, if I recall correctly. :)

And thanks for the link! I found your thread last night, but I had to go close up the coops right after and never got back to post. Oops!
