Well, you've convinced me! I ordered one each: barred rock, exchequer leghorn, light brown leghorn, golden buff, and black australorp. I'm hoping to amp up my egg production and still have all different breeds so I can tell who is who! Yay!

Yay, chick season! :weee I haven't posted here in a long while, but I do have some chicks on order from Meyer this year! I broke down and ordered a Blue Ameraucana pullet from them, even though I swore to myself that I wouldn't spend that much for a chick. :oops: Things change, I suddenly needed to be more selective about how many cockerels I bring onto the property, and so I decided the extra money paid on that one is to be sure I get a pullet. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The rest of my order to go along with the Blue Am pullet is 3 Silver Gray Dorkings (2 pullets and a cockerel, because I want a Dorking boy!), 2 Blue Cochin pullets, 1 Light Brahma pullet, and 1 Easter-egger pullet. All due May 16, so it looks like I'll be waiting a bit longer than you all!

Aww. I ordered a blue Am girl and a blue cochin girl last year for a similar hatch date(may 18th). They are both great :) Although my blue cochin is playing broody now, she's still quite sweet.

My grandparents order 25 Production Reds/Red Stars every few years from Meyer and LITERALLY ALWAYS get a DEFORMED chicken, at least one always has a double foot (like a foot on top of a foot deformity with 6 toes) or just straight up extra toes growing from the foot. While this doesn't really hurt the hens, and they lay massive eggs...I personally think something is wrong with their line of chickens, too genetically engineered or something like the frogs in the rain forest. Here are their hens, for the curious. I need to take a pic of the double foot from this group;

That sucks! I got 9 chickens from them this past fall, hatch date October 26th 2015, and they arrived the next day and none of them had issues. I did lose one at 6 days old because of pasty butt but that was my fault. I originally ordered 2 each of Barred Rock, Black Australorp, Buff Orpington, and Easter Egger, and added the free extra chick but the chick I lost was one of my Barred Rocks and the extra was a Buff Orpington which I'm glad about. One Buff Orp had I think wry neck or something similar, she kept laying her head way back and falling backwards, and I wasn't sure she would pull through but she did. They're 20 or 21 weeks now. Plus wry neck could have happened to any chick. Anyhow, we now have 1 Barred Rock, 2 Black Australorps, 3 Buff Orpingtons, and 2 Easter Eggers. Haven't had any deformities yet. But then again 8, originally 9, chickens really isn't that big of an order. Perhaps with a bigger order I may see problems. Or perhaps the problem comes with the hybrids? I mean, sex links are production hybrids so that's bound to produce at least some problems whether it's with their specific line or the breed in general. I imagine the meat birds have problems too. Has Meyer been made aware of the problem? Obviously they probably can't afford to fix it or replace chicks every year but surely they could work towards improving thrir line? I would definitely at least tell them if you haven't already

can you show us a picture of the double feet?? Meyer has pretty Great customer service I'm sure if you had told them about a deformity or perhaps sent a few pictures (because your claiming so many have it) I'm certain they would have made it right and sent other replacements. interesting. I know Silkies are SUPPOSED to have extra toes but only the Silkie breed. I sure like to see a few feet pictures if you would please. I've not heard this complaint before? Also a growing chicks legs and feet can be affected if they were raised on a slippery structure such as newspaper for example. also certain vitamin defiency can cause feet and leg issues. but not second feet. I'd really like to see that please post a picture or two.! Thanks :)
