Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

:hugs Glad I could be of help. :)

My babies are 7 weeks old today, quickly approaching their first nights outside. I can't believe how much they've grown! The pullets are already bigger than my Sebright bantam hens! I have their 7 week pictures on my camera, so I'll get those uploaded some time this afternoon. :D

My girls turned 8 weeks old today. They are already half the size of my adult standard size hens! I am amazed at how fast chicks grow. Can't wait to see some pics of your babies :D

Nancy - Are your girls squatting yet? Checking out nest boxes?
They are checking out the nest boxes but only to play with the shavings because they haven't seen them since they left the brooder 10 weeks ago! Izzy the EE has the reddest comb and I could swear when I went to pet her back yesterday she sort of squatted (her wings went out a little and crouched down and she never did that before) but they are only 16 weeks today so I don't think she's ready yet. My RIR's combs have gotten a bit bigger but nothing major and no changes in anyone else. I think it will be a few more weeks yet.

How are Big Mama and Oreo today? Are your other ones venturing into the run yet or are they still scared? I hope you see some improvement

Nancy- That sounds like a squat to me. You should pet her back and neck to make her happy.

Here is Big Mama, she looks more like a normal chicken now, but still does not pick up anything when she eats. Seems to be getting water in her though. I have been feeding her wet food put into the side of her mouth and she does swallow it. I have a dispenser bottle that I have fixed up to use to put food in her mouth for the next time I go out to feed her. The people on the other forum think that maybe she might have swelling or bruising and temporarily lost control of her muscle there. It kind of makes sense, I am thinking she may have hit her head and even knocked herself out when the attack happened. She was so mad at me today and was hard to hold, which is good. I am going to wrap her in a pillow case to help hold her while I feed her with the squeeze bottle next time.

That's her mad look in the picture. She is using her tongue better and she actually opened her left eye a sliver, so it is slow but she is improving. She seems to be hungry too and keeps trying to eat and scratch.

Here she is after I fed her, she turned around away from me. Not a happy chicken. So soon I'll be going out to annoy her again. Keep her moving and eating until she does it on her own. Her open eye looks more like her old self too, no more standing in a trance.

Here is Oreo under her basket, she is coated in Nu Stock on her back, but the chickens still were pecking at her. They're supposed to not peck her with that on it, but they did.

Today, here she is in her new area, a nice big dog pen, we added roosts for her 2 at different levels. She is moving around more, but cannot roost yet. I put her on the lower one, but she fell of, so I guess too soon.

Yesterday I thought that I would lose Oreo soon, but last night and this morning she does have some improvement. She ate a lot of egg today and some scratch BOSS and I put in grit too for her. She drank a lot of water too. She also got mad at her healthy sister for stealing the egg I was feeding her thru the bars. Day by day, inch by inch. I have a real love hate relationship with dogs now.

So I almost read this entire thread but happy I went with Meyer when adding some more Black Copper Marans toy flock. After reading tho I'm thinking of adding to my order, have a bunch of Roos to replace anyways. My order is supposed to ship July 15. I can't wait to get them. Thought I was done with chick for the year but most of my marans I bought from local breeders ended up cockerels :-(

Lynn, Big Mama's looking better, at least! Swelling could be right. I don't have any experience with those types of injuries, so I will just keep my fingers crossed for her and Oreo. :fl

I'm sure not all of the chicks hatch on sun/mon to ship in time so what do they do with the ones who hatch later in the week? Are they the "adopt me bargain"

Mine came from a breeder, I guess they wanted to be like the hatchery chicks and hatch on the same day..
