Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

You know, I never DID get am email from Meyer's saying my chicks had shipped. However, on the advice of a fellow BYC member, I went to the Meyer's site and checked my order status and saw clearly that they shipped. I got my tracking number there and was disheartened to see that they were in Mansfield, Ohio, just outside of Polk, Ohio, where the hatchery is, at 7:18PM Central Time last night. I simply accepted that they weren't going to get to me in Central Illinois until Wednesday. This morning, doubtful, but ever hopeful, I checked the tracking again. Just for the heck of it. And... My chicks are in the post office of a neighboring town from me!!!! They were checked in there at 6:32AM. That post office is only a 25 minute drive from where I live! I live in a small, rural town, just outside of a small city which is where they are. Things almost always go through the city's post office before coming to my little post office. So... my post office might still get them TODAY!!!

Honestly, I'm amazed. I just didn't see how they would travel all that distance in one night! But they did and they're nearly here. If they don't get to my little post office today, I might call the city post office and see if it's possible for me to pick them up there, though I suspect they are already on route to my post office. Ohhhhh! I'm so excited!!!
I just checked mine and they are still saying in Mansfield. Looks like that haven't updated it at all yet. Think mine wont be here til tomorrow. :-(.

Keep checking or call your local post office with the tracking number. Mine showed Ohio also until 10am PDT then it suddenly updated. Some PO's don't seem to update their tracking as often as others do. I really think yours will get to you today!

Well. I picked up the chicks at the post office with my husband. We opened the box right then and there so the lady working the desk could see them. And frankly, I just couldn't wait until we were home. We opened the box part way and I peaked in and counted heads. 1, 2, 3... 8! All 8 were alive and well and peeping away! We opened the box a little more and the little brown leghorn chick jumped right out with a hop and a flap of her tiny wings! Startled the lady behind the counter, but then she immediately melted at the sight of them.

We got them home right away and I dipped each of their beaks in the water and showed them the Brinsea s they knew where to get warm. Then I showed them their chick-crumble, pecking at it with my finger. They all caught on right away! All of them look great, except one is a bit on the small side and is a bit wobbly. I'm a little worried about her, although she is eating and drinking and getting around. She's our little Barred Rock.

The Meyer's Meal Maker I got is a little yellow chick with reddish racing striped down her back. I think she's their Golden Buff, which is the same thing as a Red Star or Sex Link. Was really hoping for something like a wyandotte, speckled sussex, or the like, but she was free so I'm not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. She's still cute as all getup!

I will post pictures tonight, although don't expect too much from me. I'm a lousy photographer! LOL But I'll do my best.

Here are pics of my 1-week old Brown Egg Layer Assortment chicks.

Above is an example of the little buff ones. Not Buff Orpingtons because the have yellow legs.

The ones feathering in with white wings are all feathering in SO FAST!
