Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I'm glad Sunni is doing better! She starting to eat on her own yet? Mine kept chasing a bee yesterday and I had to put scratch out to keep them busy till the bee got away cause I was afraid they would get stung. I figured chickens would leave them alone cause they sting but I guess not, I'm glad I got them focused on something else.
Yeah, good thing! We have a lot of wasps by my barn, so it's more than likely she tried to eat one and got stung. She keeps trying to eat on her own, but her tongue is still swollen, so she can't bring it forward to swallow anything. She can get food and grass into her mouth, but then it just sits there. She has been getting a little bit closer to being able to eat on her own every day, so she should be able to in a few days. We are still feeding her about 5-6 teaspoons of watered down feed through a syringe every 3 hours, and that seems to be going good. She sure does hate it though.

Dominique

Standard Buff Brahma

Speckled Sussex
We ordered these gals last May. The Sussex and Dominique lay nearly everyday and the Brahma finally (!) laid her first egg today. We have 4 ducks scheduled for March and 9 more chicks for April, can't wait, seems like it is taking forever to get here. Even have the countdown timer on the phone going...

Lovely birds.

Sorry for the huge post, I had lots of pictures I liked this time.

So today I got another egg from Scarlett my RIR, I got another light brown egg that looks exactly the same size and shape as Scarlett's so it may have been from Big Red my other RIR but I don't know. I also got 2 leathery shelled eggs today and they were on the poop board!! I have no idea where they came from. Could they have been from the same girl? One actually looked a little greenish in color but I don't think it could have come from Izzy because she has laid in the nest both times and was sitting in the nest later today, after I found the bad eggs, but she didn't lay an egg. So now I'm confused. Maybe I have 2 or 3 new layers? For sure Scarlett and Izzy have given me eggs. Someone else gave a good egg today and then 2 weird leathery eggs.
It is a puzzle isn't it. They do have oyster shell free choice too. I made sure to freshen it up and they all were eating it.
I made my hubby an omelette this morning from all the eggs we've gotten so far. We call it our $5000 omelette because of all we spent on the coop/run etc. And Izzy's egg from yesterday turned out to be a double yolker!!!
It will be fun to see what happens out there tomorrow!

Those are some beautiful eggs. Don't you also have a Black Australorps from Meyer? I'm curious to know how the BA compares to your BR for eggs when she gets going.

Notable Nancy, I meant to comment quite a few pages back on how beautiful your olive egg from your Izzy is., and I also love the color of your RIR's brown egg too, I'd also like to know how frequently the two of them lay for you and how large the eggs are over time, if you happen to notice.

MsChickenMomma, I hope Sunni is doing well now.
Mine just started laying last week so I don't have much to go on yet

My RIR laid again today (3 out of 4 days) and it was just as dark and same small size. None from Izzy so 2 out of 3 days she laid an egg. I have 2 BA's and a BR from Meyer too so I'll let you know what they look like when they start to lay. The BA's don't have their full combs yet so I think they are still a few weeks away yet. My girls are 19 weeks today!

Congrats on the eggs. I'm so jealous.

So we think Marble (our BR) is still our only girl laying. I'm sure the others will start while my daughter and I are out of town this week.

It's interesting to see how her eggs are slowly getting darker. Here's her last 8 eggs. Closer eggs are oldest.
Very pretty. And I thought they got lighter as they get better at laying. My RIR's egg is so dark already so I thought it would lighten up. Not complaining though!!

MsChickenMomma - Glad she is still eating what you are giving her. Maybe she will eat on her own in a day or 2!! You're doing a GREAT job!!

Thats such a pretty egg basket!!

I'm pretty sure that light brown egg is from Big Mama. All 3 of my adult Buff Orps lay eggs that exact same color.
Thank you! I believe it is hers and my BR Pepper is squatting too, so maybe more soon! I hope Sunni keeps improving!
X2 and its like he grew into an adult over night!
Oh my gosh, I was thinking the same exact thing!

trsturself: That's a lot of eggs and they do look pretty big too!

Nancy: You'll have a lot of eggs soon it sounds like. We got a couple of the shell-less eggs early on with the other chickens before, it does seem like you must have a few laying now. They'll get it right soon. It is always nice when they lay in the nest box though. I only got one egg today, so I guess Olivia took a day off.

Since our BR started laying (the 3rd) she's only missed 2 days! And she is a silent layer... no egg song! She went into the nest box yesterday while I was in the garden so I stayed out there until she came out (~30min) and she just walked out and resumed her business like nothing had happened. I was so disappointed I didn't get to hear her song. But the other day she was making a HUGE racket and I went out to see what was going on. Nothing was. She was just coming out of the coop screaming her head off. My daughter and I joke that since she didn't do her egg song earlier since I was giving treats while she was laying that she was just making up for it. Or that she had just realized I took her egg and she was yelling at me. Strange chicken. lol

Yes, we have a BA also. Her comb is HUGE, bigger than our BR, but still no evidence that she's laying. I've seen her check out the nest box once. She is squatting too. I check the floor and all the areas in their run but haven't seen any evidence they are laying anywhere. The only possibility is that she's hidden it somewhere in the garden or yard since she has been escaping the run lately. But I don't think she'd feel comfortable with the dogs staring at her in the yard. lol

Yes, it is confusing figuring out who's laying what unless you happen to be out there when they are in the box. And even then who knows since we've had one sit in there for 20 min and come out with nothing. And I know some of you have had the same thing, so who's to say they didn't go in and sit on someone else's egg and fool us unless of course you just checked the box before they go in.

I need one of those nest cams!

Ha, ha, I love it, you seem to be living my life. I hear loud clucking and think there must be an egg and there is none. When I am not looking for an egg, there's an egg. My husband thinks the hens are just toying with me by making me come and check by making loud clucks and laughing at me afterwards. I am beginning to think he's right.

Nugget sure is getting good at crowing.. He was getting his practice in first thing this morning, my parrot wasn't happy she wasn't the loudest thing in the house first thing in the morning so she had to outdo him... Lucky me!
