Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Sounds like you have a keeper there. Great husband!

I bet it would have been funny watching him try to coral all those chicks.

I hope Amber is doing better!

Yeah! We're getting 2 a day regularly now but I can't wait until we have more than that!

I put more shavings in the nest boxes to try to prevent cracked eggs but found another one the other day. I think the second chicken to go in there moves it around when she's making the nest right for her. Why do they always have to lay in the same box? *eye roll*
Maybe they don't want the other chickens egg in there. Yesterday when I got the eggs Ash's egg and Olivia's was in one box, but Olivia's egg was pushed to the edge. If I did not have a wooden edging on the nest, it would have been pushed out.
7 days in a row from Olivia- that's impressive! Glad they are all doing well and the CW is better. Can't wait til we figure out exactly what you have!!

I know... I have 5 nest boxes and all 4 eggs were in the same box today! I was thinking about putting a little curtain up in front of a few of the boxes. The other chickens always hover around and stare at the one laying. So weird. Maybe they want a little privacy and maybe they'll try another box if it's more private? Just an experiment I was going to try.
Does anyone use them? I found the cutest mini garden flag that is just the right size. If it works I saw some cute chicken ones on ebay I'll have to get!
I am getting it narrowed down and I have a list for each color and the possible breeds. I may actually still have a Golden Campine, not sure yet. I'll post pics so you all can see. She is speckled and I believe she looks like one too. They either gave me two or the one that died was actually a Sicilian Buttercup, which is a speckled one too.
I'd kill for a 1 egg day lol, thought I heard the egg song yesterday but they were just being loud.

Trsturself- how is Amber?

Lynn- yup I should be getting 8 chicks and 3 ducks next week!! I'm SOOO excited! I've been waiting since April so I'm def glad its almost over. I'm glad the cw is doing better. I bet your having a blast watching the babies.
Any day now, you'll get one!

Your in that week or two where they like to fake you out.

It is so much fun watching the little ones run around and I am enjoying trying to figure out what they are. Your turn soon!

Okay good! I have never had EE's before, and they are so much different than other breeds that I've had.

Hika Ma is so beautiful. I love his coloring.

Lynn: Im sorry your Campine didn't make it.

I was just going through your chick photos and my Campine was not the one that died, I believe I still have a Campine. I think the one that died was either another Campine or a Sicilian Buttercup. The speckled one I have looks just like your Golden Campine chicks as babies.

It's always when you least expect it!! I was shocked when I saw my first egg in the nest. They were squatting but it was still a surprise, you think it's just never going to happen.

GREAT hubby trsturself!! Not sure mine would have done all that

Are you going to do the processing or take them somewhere to have it done? I have never had fresh/home grown chicken but would love to try it. I just wouldn't want to do the plucking of the feathers.
Also, can you line the nest box with something soft or staple a few old shirts/rags in there then put the shavings on top? I bought a bale of straw and now use both shavings and straw. I think the straw is harder to move around as much and it sort of stays put in a nest like shape.

So what does everyone think, a Golden Campine? Hope so, but I guess just hoping and wishing won't make it come true.

It def looks like a campine! I'd say yes. And I already figured out that pearl is gonna lay when I'm at my parents house next month for a week or so.

And I'm sorry Lynn but I'm dying laughing over here trying to picture your hubby chase and try to catch 25 chicks. You def have a keeper!

On a side note I'm going to order my barn today!! I'm super excited but hubby still can't believe I'm spending $6000 on a barn and isn't all that thrilled but I never get anything for myself so I deserve it

I sure hope so. I think Meyer's left off one of my light brown leghorns and instead of 2 rare breeds, I got 4, which is fine with me. The leghorn was a last minute add on anyway when they called me. I love getting the rare breeds, in the future when I order again, I'll get 5 of them, since your supposed to get 5 different ones.

My husband is a great guy too, but it was trsturself's husband that was trying to coral the 25 chicks!

I guess all of our husband's are great ones, your getting a $6000 barn? Awesome! Your going to have some really expensive eggs! My husband wants mine to lay golden eggs to cover all of my chicken expenses. Send pictures of the barn when you can.

I never have really asked for much myself either, so when I wanted chickens, I got them.

I better get some work done now, I've been letting chicks and chickens distract me way too much lately.

Ihi is as well! There was a brief time when she was okay, didn't like my hand but would tolerate me if I moved slowly enough, but she's a wild child now. She does calm down, though, if I manage to catch her and hold her in my arms. :)
