Great more chicks! Not much longer for you! They ship this month. Aug 19. I believe.
I think I would be worse going to the fairI have no self control. Sounds like a fun time though.
My daughter collects them too and we have plenty as well!Gosh I've gotten behind! Had like 20 pages to read, lol!
I loved the double yokers!
Pip, your partridge rock is sooo beautiful!
Loving all the new baby chicks and I'm sorry for the people who have had losses!
My 6 girls are going to be 12 weeks on Monday! Pretty sure they're all girls, since none are seems to be showing major signs of being a roo... They sure have been swapping out the feathers though, my 6 year old has quite a stash in his chicken feather collection he started.
Cute! You have some roos there too? I love both breeds, sweet chickens.
ChickenMomma and trsturself:
How are Amber and Sunni doing? Hope okay.
The one I had before was pretty friendly and was also one of the lower ones on the pecking order, so not aggressive at all. She was a little human shy, but would squat for me to rub her when she reached POL. I have a Golden Laced and the Columbian 2 week olds, as chicks the Columbian is more friendly and lets us rub her chest. The Golden one is more shy. I love Dominique's too, the one we had before was very friendly and laid lots of eggs early on.Is your Wyandotte friendly with the other chickens? I had a BLRW on my order for last week but it didn't hatch so I'm thinking of adding a gold Wyandotte to my 9/30 order but I've heard they aren't really friendly. I'm also thinking of adding a Dominique
Wow, she is with the right owner, I am sure you will take good care of her. I don't think we'd be able to handle a special needs chicken here for too long. I hope she can eventually feed herself soon.Sunni is doing good. She went from being able to eat some foods on her own, to none at all this week. Her tongue swelled up to five times the size it should be again and it was covered in the pox from the wet fowl pox disease. We managed to get almost all of it off with q-tips and tiny tiny amounts of listerine. The swelling has gone down a little today and she was able to eat some sweet potatoes on her own just now. She struggled a little, but managed to get it down. She still can't drink anything on her own either. She tries, but she can't bring her tongue forward enough to get any down because it's so swelled. Even when the swelling went down quite a bit a few weeks ago, she still couldn't drink.
We are looking at possibly having to either tube feed or syringe feed her the rest of her life. From the looks of it, it doesn't seem that she will ever gain full use of her tongue again. Which is fine with me. I don't mind having a special needs hen.![]()
Eggs soon maybe? My surviving one from my 2nd set of chicks will be 15 weeks tomorrow and is starting to get closer to me, but still has a small comb and wattles. Maybe your leghorn will lay first? My girls turned 14 weeks old today, and I noticed that some of them are getting longer combs, waddles, and earlobes. One of my white leghorns comb grew to almost twice the size it was in less than two days. It's amazing how fast those little girls grow.
23 weeksOur almost 2 week old Meyer chicks love to dust bathe. This container was too small...Got one a little bigger, still too small....
Much better...plus deeper so they stop throwing all the sand out
We put a roost in their box and it did not take them long to jump up on it.
They also jump on the waterer and now jump to the edge of the box, so we're working on getting a separation area ready for them inside the coop. we'll probably move them outside next weekend. We'll miss having them inside though, they are so much fun and friendly.
Here's one of the CM and the brown EE
Buffy, the Buff Laced Polish, her hairdo is starting to come in.
So we've figured out what all but two of the chicks are now. Our little brown one has such a small comb and we still can't tell if it is a single or pea comb. So she still could be a Partridge Rock, like some of you have guessed or another EE. Our Splash one is such a friendly chick, but we'll find out once she gets big what type she is. so far they all look like girls too, we have the two CM's that looked so different last week, but now look the same. I am concerned about my RIR, Ash, she stopped laying eggs for a few days now, there was a shelless one yesterday that may have been hers. I think my BR, Pepper has not laid yet either. BarredRockGirls: So sorry to hear about your lost one. How old are your chickens now? I think I need to just give Pepper a little more time, even though she is squatting and looking ready. Oreo, the other BR has been laying almost everyday.
