BarredRocksGirls- did you end up loosing more today? & what kind of puppy did you get? My husband wants to get another dog but after having 4 and going down to 2 I'm kinda happy with just the 2 we have now.

Wow, she is with the right owner, I am sure you will take good care of her. I don't think we'd be able to handle a special needs chicken here for too long. I hope she can eventually feed herself soon.
Eggs soon maybe? My surviving one from my 2nd set of chicks will be 15 weeks tomorrow and is starting to get closer to me, but still has a small comb and wattles. Maybe your leghorn will lay first?

Thank you. I really hope she starts eating on her own too. But I'm always around, so it won't be too much of a deal to continue syringe feeding her for as long as she needs me to.

I'm kind of thinking the same thing for my Leghorn. She'll probably start laying right at the 18 week mark. Maybe even earlier. I was looking at her more today and her comb and waddles are starting to turn pretty red too. My other WL still has a small yellowish comb and very tiny waddles. I can't believe how different two chickens of the same age can be.

Trsturself: tube feeding/syringe feeding a chicken their whole lives is a huge commitment, and not a lot of people are able to do it. Sunni is definitely lucky she has a chicken momma who is willing and able to do it. I'm still hoping that eventually she will be able to eat and drink on her own though.

Sunni is doing good. She went from being able to eat some foods on her own, to none at all this week. Her tongue swelled up to five times the size it should be again and it was covered in the pox from the wet fowl pox disease. We managed to get almost all of it off with q-tips and tiny tiny amounts of listerine. The swelling has gone down a little today and she was able to eat some sweet potatoes on her own just now. She struggled a little, but managed to get it down. She still can't drink anything on her own either. She tries, but she can't bring her tongue forward enough to get any down because it's so swelled. Even when the swelling went down quite a bit a few weeks ago, she still couldn't drink.

We are looking at possibly having to either tube feed or syringe feed her the rest of her life. From the looks of it, it doesn't seem that she will ever gain full use of her tongue again. Which is fine with me. I don't mind having a special needs hen.

I don't know how you do it cause I had to force feed one of the new chicks for a few days and it wasn't fun! I had to get up at least twice a night to check/feed her. I'm so glad I ended up taking the week off of work cause I've gotten no sleep this week. Sunni is lucky to have such a great mom

I got the frizzle. I've been checking him everyday but I still can't tell. I thought he was a male cause I saw a comb but pipdz told me straight comb chicks will have sm combs when they are born. I have 2 other straight comb birds in the order and they also have combs and I ordered females for the other 2. I'm hoping for a male cause my husband and I want to breed him with our polish. My frizzle is also extremely smaller than the others, even the 2 silkies so he spends a good bit of time trying to avoid getting ran over. Are yours really small too?

Yes my frizzles are much smaller. I am the opposite as you, I hope I have hens. Since I have 3 I can compare the feathers as they're growing in and 2 seem just to be straight and the other ones feathers are growing in and curling which leads me to believe she is my only frizzle.

She has a great mom! She's a lucky girl. Hopefully she will start to improve soon and be able to eat and drink on her own

I also have to share that my husband has been bitten by the chicken bug. This is amazing because he is not an animal person, AT ALL! I can't remember if I posted earlier that he really bonded with the chickens when my daughter and I were out of town. He would let them out, feed them treats, and just watch them. Before he didn't know their names or even what we had. I put new chickens in there multiple times and he never noticed. Now he sends me texts asking how Amber is doing, etc. And he's talking about which ones we're going to breed, how to setup a different brooder, how he's going to build the next coop, etc! I told him we're not doing anything until next year! I think the fair really got him pumped up. lol!

This is great its so much fun when you can share something you love with your spouse and have them interested too. Makes it even better. Mine isn't there yet, he says he likes having them but he really has nothing to do with them except listen to me show them off every now and then

Just got my invoice saying the chicks are ready for pickup! The only bummer is that they processed my order right at 9:00 so I didn't have time to add any other breeds that just got updated on the availability page Oh well, I hope I get some Buff Brahmas in my assortments then.

Are you driving there to get them? If you are I'm sure they wouldn't mind adding some. I called last week at 9 cause 2 of mine didn't hatch and they let me add more & come to find out it looked like my box was already packed cause there was another invoice stuck on top of the original and it had looked like there was cut tape under the actual tape that closed the box

Do you just use regular playground sand? They seem to really be enjoying it!

I have used construction sand with wood ash and the last sand they have is playground sand, so either one works.

Unfortunately when I called, they said it was too late. I don't know why because I'm not picking them up until Wednesday morning. I doubt they'll have any extra chicks by then, but I can always hope.

that is too bad!! The website is saying there are so many great breeds available in limited supplies. Wish I didnt look, I am seriously tempted!!! Maybe if you call again, you will get someone else on the phone who may try for you!
