Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Pip, Alice's comb is the exact same size as your brown Leghorn. Maybe even a little bigger than that. I just went out to the coop and Alice is in the nest box!!! :celebrate

She did it!! She laid a tiny little white egg. It weighed 1.2 ounces.

ha, ha congrats!!! She was reading this thread or your mind. Every time I complain on here, the next day, they lay an egg!

She is a beautiful girl!

All of my chickens that I had before laid eggs weighing 1.2 ounces, but after the dog attacked when these started laying eggs, they were all 1.6 or more. Weird.

Alice is only 17 weeks and 2 days, but her comb are waddles are already larger than Snow's. Snow was such a pretty girl.

Phew, I thought the Whites were the early layers when it came to Leghorns! I don't know for sure, but I have been finding a really small white egg in the nests about every other day or so since the middle of last week, and check out the comb and wattles on my light brown Leghorn girl, Whiri (she's a little more than 16 weeks old now, but this was taken when she was 15 1/2 weeks old) :

These eggs I'm finding are just slightly smaller than my Sebrights' eggs, so it is possible that one of the Sebrights is laying them, but I don't know for sure...

Lynn, if you have a recent picture of your white Rock and how long ago she started squatting if she has started squatting, I can give you an estimated arrival date of her first egg.

She is gorgeous! She sure has a huge comb and wattles.

Daisy is not squatting for me yet, but she is much more social now, likes to talk to me and be near me. She is also checking out the nest boxes. She goes in the coop and looks at them and just stands there, of course, she probably thinks if she gets in one the older 5 girls will pick on her more. Her combs and wattles are getting bigger and redder, but still not huge yet, especially not like Whiri.

Squatting usually comes about a week before egg laying, but sometimes they don't squat until after they begin to lay. Her interest in the box makes me think she will probably squat soon. I'm thinking in a week or two she will start laying.

Here is a picture of one of my Meyer partridge Rocks about 2 weeks before she laid her first egg:

And on the day of laying her first egg:

My partridge Rocks didn't lay until around 30 weeks old, but you can see how the comb looked pretty red long before she laid and there wasn't much comb and wattle growth between the two pictures. (Keep in mind, in general it seems the hatchery barred and white Rocks have larger combs and wattles than the partridges do.)

Oh, and I checked Whiri over--I don't think she's laying yet. Her pelvic bones are still quite close to one another (one finger width between them) and her vent is only a little wider than the other pullets' vents. Oh, well, I'm in no hurry for these little ladies to start laying. :)

Welcome and you are getting a nice selection. We have a couple BR's and one Golden Buff, plus many more other kinds too. Both breeds are nice and friendly. It sounds like you're all set up. It is soooo exciting getting chickens the first time! Can't wait to see those chick pics in a few weeks!

Thanks!!! Im glad! Im so excited i cant wait!!! Its SO Hard!!

I have a white cochin and she is extremely friendly! And I have a Buff Brahma but I'm pretty sure she's half light brahma. She's half white and should be all buff colored so I'm thinking a roo hopped the fence and I have a 1/2 BB and 1/2 LB. She's pretty quiet, 25 weeks old and not laying yet but they are late to mature from what I hear and kind of hangs out by herself a lot. I think she's pretty low in the pecking order. Doesn't get picked on or anything but just kind of aloof.
All my chickens eat out of my hand, even my 2 flighty EE's that won't squat for me, but not all chickens let me pick them up. Or like to be picked up. My BA's, BR, WC like a little extra attention.
Thats great! Im excited for my chicks!

I want a bearded D'Unccle!!!!!! the pics in the magazines do NOT do them justice....Beautiful bird and congrats on the win!!!!
