Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

They do keep you busy. You may want to try running a little warm water over the Columbian Wyandotte's vent area over the bathroom sink, maybe there is a little build up of poop in there and that might help release it. Just use gloves and rub the area a little under the water, a tiny dab of natural soap would help too. My White leghorn had a build up and her vent protruded out, she started releasing her bowels when I washed her vent (which was pretty nasty) and she still had the protruding vent for a few days, she seemed to do a lot better soon after and is one of the biggest ones now. May not work, but might.
I just used a wet wash cloth but didn't run the vent under warm water. I will try that. How did you dry her bum after that - blow dryer? or just with a towel?
Sounds like they have the same thing.
She seems a bit perkier with the droppers of different waters I'm giving her and even pecked at a little food I have thrown on the floor of brooder. But certainly not back to normal.
Thanks for the tip!

I just put her little bottom under the warm running water and used my fingers to gently wipe until all looked clean and I used a wash cloth to gently dry her. Each one that had the pasty butt was held by one of us in the wash cloth wrapped up until they were mostly dried off. She'll complain but if that is the problem she'll feel better. Also you may have to do this for the next 2 to 3 days until you see her pooping normally. Hope she makes it. Watch the others too for the next few days. I had about 6 of my 15 have this problem the 1st week, the most severe one was the white leghorn though.

Yes!!! She is eating a ton but haven't seen her drink yet so I gave her some more droppers of water.
Is it possible she will get used to the dropper and not drink for herself?
I did dip her beak in the water this morning to show it to her but then she ran away.

I'll post more pics later :)

Great pictures, I can't believe mine were that small a little over 4 weeks ago. Maybe the CW is drinking when you're not looking? I'm not sure if she is getting used to the droppers or not, you would think she'd prefer the open waterer. Maybe she'll copy some of the others drinking? You could try a small lid or bottle cap full of water and encourage her to drink that way and maybe she'll catch on? or move the waterer closer to the food?

Our Buff Orpington is becoming a lap chicken and likes to sit on us and get petted. Chickens are so much fun!

I'll try to watch more to see if she's sneakin' drinks.
Both Austrolorp's are the most brazen and friendly. I put food in my hand and they always come running over to eat out of it
were just climbing all over my hand for the first time! I was going to get 2 Jersey Giants but opted for the BA because I heard
they are so friendly and the neighbor that I chicken sit for has 3 and they always come to me for treats.

They do grow so fast so am taking lots of pics and videos so I can remember them as chicks. But I can't wait to see what the EE's
look like. 2 have fluffy cheeks

and are so cute.

Yes. You are correct. It is a different way to give the chicks heat in the brooder other than a heat lamp. I think they're great for so many reasons. They're cheaper to run than a heat lamp, no risk of them starting a fire like a heat lamp, the chicks can self-regulate their own heat needs and go under the EcoGlow when they need to be warm, and there's no light on 24 hours a day, so the chicks can develop a natural day/night rhythm which I think is healthier for them both mentally and physically. It's more like a natural hen in many ways, since they can huddle underneath it when they want to be warm. And if they get too hot, they can simply walk away. It comes in two sizes; 20 chick and 50 chick. But from what I can tell they really hold less than that. Great product, though. http://www.amazon.com/Brinsea-EcoGlow-Brooder-Chicks-Ducklings/dp/B008HVM56Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1363290561&sr=8-2&keywords=ecoglow

Those are really neat! I just talked to my mom about it, and she said that I can do some stuff around the yard to earn the money for it. I just hope that I can earn enough money by the time my chicks get here in May. Also I hope it will ship on time! I know it says that it can fit 20 chicks, and it looks like it wouldn't fit that many after the first few days. Will the smallest one be big enough for 10 chicks?
