It looks too yellowish and light to be a blue one, maybe a white one, if there is such a breed? Of course, I am new at this too but my Blue Cochin looked like this with fuzzy legs like yours.Meyer has indeed confirmed it is not an Orpington. They have refunded my $20. Dang, they have no Blue Orpingtons available now either. Their consensus is that the chick is a cochin. Hopefully it is a blue cochin. They were very nice about it though.
Yeah, I know what you mean. She does have a bluish cast on her back, but nothing like any photos I've found. Not really thrilled to have a white cochin, but I'll give her a few weeks and see what colors shake out.
Too funny. I'm sure the neighbors think I'm crazy when I give imaginary high fives or start dancin' a little jig in the backyard when things like this happen to my flock.Yes it is and thank you!![]()
I have to brag.. we went out to the coop and called the chicks out for treats this am, usually they all fly out the chicken door, but nobody was coming out...of course we got very worried...and then I was hearing all this chirping....we went in the coop to see and they all were up on the top roost together roosting, but none of them could figure out how to get down. I had to help a few down and the ones that do not like to be touched used that fear as inspiration to fly down.
So proud! There like real chickens now!![]()
That's a shame about your Blue Orp/Blue Cochin but she looks like my White Cochin- just a little yellow fluff ball. I wish I got 2 of those... they are so adorableMeyer has indeed confirmed it is not an Orpington. They have refunded my $20. Dang, they have no Blue Orpingtons available now either. It's looking like you're going to have a busy morning tomorrow or quite possibly a busy afternoon if your Post Office calls today...hoping for today for you stillThose pics are wonderful!! Dang about not getting your Blue Orp....Ive still got no update on shipping info for anyone tuned in,hasnt been scanned, been checking every hour...literally![]()
My roosts are about 4 feet up, but they have some straw bales to hop on to get up there. They just for some reason could not seem to figure out that they could hop down the same way they hopped up.I was going to ask you if they were roosting... so cute![]()
So did they all do it at the same time in one night? That's funny - whatever one does the rest follow.
How high are the roosts? I was wondering if I had to put a little ladder in there but my roosts aren't high at all.
I have another newbie question/opinion:
Its still a long way off but when I finally put them in the coop at about 6-7 weeks old it will be beginning of May with night temps in mid 40's-50's on average.
I really don't want to put a heat lamp out there but I will if I have to... should I just put the EcoGlow out there or do you think they will be ready to be without it? And most
likely 14 6-week old chicks won't fit under there. Should I start to acclimate them in the garage and see how they do with the temps? I could always add a red heat light if needed, I have one,
but I'm worried about fire and they will be used to day/night and suddenly adding a light at night may confuse them.
Any opinions? Or just take a deep breath and worry about that in 5 weeks?? hmmm, I guess that's what I would tell myself!
I resisted the chicks at my local Feed store! They had 1 week old Sicilian Buttercups that were adorable!!
Somehow I missed your post.... the wait for chicks had to be one of the worst waits ever!!Those pics are wonderful!! Dang about not getting your Blue Orp....Ive still got no update on shipping info for anyone tuned in,hasnt been scanned, been checking every hour...literally![]()
