Wow! RoostersCrow, that is A LOT of eggs. Lol Idk what I'd do with all those!!

I sell mine for $2.00 doz but eggs can go for $2 up to $5 a dozen in my area. Famers markets get crazy prices but they have to pay a table fee. I just sell by word of mouth and I live on a main highway with a sign out front.

I could raise my price but I've been selling for 6 years now and I don't want to loose any customers. Some people are really nice and give me a tip. Really I'm just happy to make a little more than breaking even, I love having the chickens and since they pay for themselves and then some , my husband doesn't complain.

I'd absolutely LOVE to have lots and lots! But my coop isn't very big. Been working on talking my sweety into building me a new one. I know he will eventually. Lol Watching my chickens r my favorite past time. They r so comical!

I think our Dom lays pretty much everyday during summer and she lays every to every other day now that it is cold. Depends on the temp but she still seems to be going strong.

Hey folks, been following everyone and their progresses/losses. Glad to see so many are enjoying and planning for new ones. We placed our order for chicks and ducklings for later this spring/summer.

Huka is the only one not to have reached POL yet (well, other than the obvious, Po). I think Ihi's the only one laying at the moment, though, with the weather as it has been.

My Easter Egger started laying! She is 23 weeks old! The picture doesn't do it justice. It is a pretty olive color with brown spots. The brown egg on the bottom is from my Barred Rock hen.

Gorgeous eggs!!!

Here is a pic of today's eggs, all my girls that are laying are Meyer with a few mixes out of Meyer and Townline stock.

My Marans hen ( not from Meyer) turned out to be a TERRIBLE layer and has only laid 8 eggs since mid December when she started at 32 weeks old

Her pelvic bones are all tight now so who knows when she'll probably lay again...grrr
That's a lot of eggs for one day. I have so many people asking for eggs but I think I'm going to barter rather than charge $$ because I am friendly with the people that want them.
One friend gave me some of her brisket she made and my sister gives me home made soup or other food for the eggs once in a while and when people heard about that they have offered me wine, and other things. So I think since I live a little out of the way, I'd deliver 2 dz eggs and whatever they want to give they can give. People tend to be overly generous so if I get a bottle of wine or hunk of cheese, a watermelon or something like that once in a while that would be great! I gave my dentist 2 dz last month when he had to do a root canal so he wouldn't hurt me as much

I think I actually talked him into getting his own chickens since he eats 3/day and is really into going all natural!!

That was me! Here is the picture so you don't have to look for it. Poppy is my Splash Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. Like RoostersCrow,HensDeliver! said she has a single comb.

Poppy is so pretty and I love the name :)
Has anyone seen the new chicks Meyer hatchery has? Jubilee Orpingtons! Sooooo expensive though, $99!

. Oh if only I was rich! I would have every rare breed!

Oh my goodness they are so pretty. I never even heard of them but $$99 is crazy. I'm sure they will be sold out though!

Nice to see you around!!! What are you getting in the spring??

I'm working on a plan to get a small additional coop for about 5-6 more birds

I want 2 Leghorn, 1-2 EE's, maybe a Speckled Sussex or Buff Orp. I will prob go with my local feed store because I only want a few and I can place an order with them and they will come in with the 800 hundred they get so they will def stay warm. And I'll get to pick out the ones I want when they come in. They get them from Ideal in Texas.

I'd love to get an Exchequer Leghorn because Roha is so pretty; do they lay as well as white Leghorns? I think you have a Speckled Sussex too right? Any current pics? I remember she was really pretty!!
Also, weird question... do bantam roosters mate with LF chickens? My friend rescued 2 roosters, one bantam one LF, and she's getting about 8 hens and I was just curious what would happen. Right now they get along so well but there's no girls to fight over right now.

I love the barter idea. I'm going to offer that up for my buyers. :)
Most people will give more than the eggs are actually worth! I'm going to tell them they don't have to give me something each time so when they do, it will most likely be worthwhile.

Does anyone know if the combs are getting slightly white tips is that the start of frostbite? Should I cover them with vaseline?
We are having a nice warm up right now but I'm sure that's not the end of winter!
