Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I can't embed it but here is a video of a silkie hatching

I just took a video of another silkie hatching too. This one took a lot longer to get out of the shell but it was fun to watch. I'll edit it down too.
I know you aren't supposed to open the bator but the chicks had scattered the eggs to the far sides so I put them back to the middle and huddled together again. None of these last ones have pipped yet still. But I listened to a couple of them and could hear cheeping so it shouldn't be much longer.

That video is great. It is just amazing how those little ones use every bit of strength they have to get themselves out. I'm exhausted from watching! :bow

You should see the other video I took. It makes this chick look speedy! The other one took a long time to push it's way out. At one point I wondered if it was going to be able to do it. I still have to edit that one down since it was MUCH longer than the first. Maybe I'll get to it soon and get it posted.

So sweet! It must be hard to resist the urge to open up the incubator and help them. I guess that's why they say "patience is a virtue!" Good luck with them all!

:D

We are so so close to having the run complete. I am hoping to let them out in it tomorrow!!!!:celebrate

Did you finish? I'd love to see pictures of the girls in the new coop & run!! We need inspiration for getting ours done.

Day 20 of our incubation and already have 3 chicks hatched!
Went to check the temp/humidity this morning and found this.

Went to work and came home to 2 more. 2 more are working at it.
So exciting that our homemade incubator worked!

Nice! I got a little behind here with work and chicken run building. I want to do this one day!!!! My husband will kill me!

Me either, but then I bought an incubator, ordered eggs, and ordered more eggs, and thankfully got outbid on two eBay auctions for eggs. Now I've got 16 eggs growing little chickies. I'll be expanding the coop this weekend!
You are so tempting me to follow your obsession!!!

A silkie just hatched. So far we have a mille fleur bantam cochin, either a RIR or BO, a JavaXBarnevelder, and a silkie. We recorded the silkie hatching. I've got to edit it, it's huge and lots of nothing parts, but I'll post it when it's done.

:)
Yay!!!!

Ok....so day 7/5. Day 7 for my BYC eggs and day 5 for my Meyers eggs.
1 blood ring and possibly 3 clear of 10 AMs. All my Meyers eggs have detached air cells. 2 look clear (or scrambled thanks to our PO). This leaves me with 6 viable AMs, 2 EEs, and 2 BRs. This is becoming a nail biter!

Hope all goes well!

In their new digs.

They look very happy and cute!

I'm picking up my chicks Monday! I ordered:

5 barred rock
5 easter eggers
5 golden buffs
3 olive eggers
3 speckled Sussex

Hopefully I can tell them all apart because I am not really sure what the easter eggers and olive eggers will look like!
Oh wow..can't wait to see the pics. I hope all arrive well!

Can't sleep! I've been doing so good until now. Set it and forget is a great motto IF you can stick to it. I've been staring at eggs for a few hours. To take my mind off of it, I downloaded a spreadsheet app so I can look at my data when I'm away from home. Now I just keep staring at the spreadsheet. As if it will tell me something I DON'T know

I would be the same I am sure, I am already pretty obsessed with my chickens. If I was hatching, I'd be so crazy about it!

I feel you. I've spent hours staring at eggs the last 2 days! That spreadsheet is very helpful. I loved being able to see my temps/humidity were staying steady and any trends. I would like to add a column for outside temp. The spreadsheet I had has a column for room temp but our house is always kept at 68 during the day so that wouldn't tell me much. But I'd like to see if the outside temp, since our brooder sits along an outside wall, has any effect on the tmeps or humidity (thinking maybe the heater running more or something).

We have 7 out and one working on it. We have 8 eggs left with no pips or anything yet. Trying to be patient since today is actually hatching day.

We've gotten a whole lot done and they have been out in the run since yesterday morning. I'll post pics soon. I am so glad that the crucial part is done and now we just need to make it look nice.

Yeah, Lynn, inspire me! I have to expand my run because of all these eggs in my bator and my order coming in May.
I will try and post the pics soon. You're going to have a lot of chicks soon. How many total are you getting?

Here is out old coop when we first built it last year.

Here it is last month after the snowstorm. We gave them a outside area covered with bird netting on the left of the shed and they also could get into the garden on the right of the shed. If you notice the 3 trees in the pictures you can see the progression of what has been done this week.

We took down the run and all the fencing and tore up the garden, so the shed was left.

The city workers volunteered to use there equipment to break it down, it took them just a couple of minutes to smash it down. It would have taken us hours without their help. They had a guy that wanted the metal from the shed so they helped us out.

So notice the 3 trees again? The coop, run and garden are all gone.

This is where the garden was, right where the yellow vehicle is. We removed all 13 of the 8 x 4 raised bed boxes and my 3 compost boxes and then they pushed the soil up for us in that big pile in the picture.

So out with the old. I really miss my garden already, I won't be able to have much of one this year.

..and in with the new....

So you give them 8 nest boxes and this is what they do, crazy chickens!

A couple days ago we finally completed covering all the open areas and let them out with a temporary ramp. Ellie the EE was the brave one to go out first.

Here is Rocky, the once broody PR deciding how to get down. After two nights in a cage in the new coop, she finally stopped being broody.

Big Mama

Ash, RIR- Who needs a ramp?

The ladies

Blackie- BA

Daisy, WR and Dottie, CW- Not so sure about this

I got this! Dottie

I had them locked up yesterday morning while we fixed up there run some more. Here is their patio.

We gave them a cover for the patio.

We let them out in the run most of the day yesterday.

Last night I shut them in early and painted the patio to match the coop. I realized last night that they still need a ramp when Dottie, the CW and Buffy, the Buff Laced Polish could not jump up to get back inside. I put a temporary pallet ramp in there until we get a chance to build one.

We can rest now, plus we'll have rain the nest few days so I guess it is break time. We need to landscape around the run and build the outside ramp and an inside ramp for the roosts. They are moved and they are safe. So glad all the hard work is over!
