The Meyers eggs did not hatch. Two internally pipped but stopped after that. They had a rough time with the post office. I don't blame them. I am really happy with these three though.

I hope it works! It must be hard to watch her pick on the others. Do you know the approx dimensions of the crate... I'm looking on craigslist for one and that looks perfect.
Not a great picture, but Daisy, my abusive White Rock is now in chicken jail. I should have put her in there a week ago, but the day I planned to put her in jail she seemed a little nicer. Today she was hopping on one young chicken to the next and viciously pecking and pulling on their necks and combs. So we'll see how the flock does a week without her. They already seem a little better. I hope that she'll be nice when I put her back in next weekend. She is in an extra large dog cage with food, water and a roost. She is out of sight of the others.
What did you order??I just order twenty two fluffies from Meyers and the wait is killing meTheir supposed to arrive any where between the fifteenth and the seventeenth of April. Good thing I'm on spring break that week! So excited. I'll be sure to post some pictures of the little stinkers once they get here :3

I'm not getting them from Meyer because since I'm only getting a few I was nervous to have them shipped and dying in transit. Even though I'm only 7 hrs. from Meyer, my PO is really slow. So I'm getting them from my feed store who gets them from Ideal. They have about 15 different breeds coming the week of 4/21 and I have an order in for 3 Silkies, 2 Cream Brabanter, 2 EE and 1 Silver Span Spitzhauben but now that I'm not getting a new coop I have to lower my order to 4. But I still don't know what I'm getting
I think I'm going to go with 1-2 Silkies, 2 Brabanter and 1 EE. Soooo, it could end up being 5
So sad. I hope she straightens out! If not, best to keep her away from the others. How are they doing without her? Anyone filling Daisy's shoes as an aggressor or are they getting along well? I hope the latter.
That's great that you got to see the Campines. My Golden Campine and both of my Andulasions love to fly to the highest spots too. How is your flock doing without the two mean ones? I do hope it works with Daisy, but I guess we'll see.I finally gave in and brought Lilly and Chicken Little (my aggressive girls) to a new home today. Two days ago they pecked the first layer of skin on most of Ellie's back clean off. I hope that solitary confinement helps you with Daisy. I tried everything with my girls, and nothing worked. So I did what I had to do, and re-homed them.
On a good note, I got to see my old Golden Campines from Meyer today! Gosh are they cute...They aren't any bigger than they were 4 months ago when I last saw them. They seem to really like it at their new home. They get to free range and jump way up in the rafters of our friends barn, and I think that's what Campine's like best.

Started working on my grow out pen today. I have a million other projects started but I really need to get these chicks out of our living room!
I got the frame put up and the top done. Just need to wrap the chicken wire around it tomorrow. DH is going to build a mini coop for them then they can stay out there for good.

It is approximately 4 feet long, 2.5 feet wide and 3 feet tall. It is one of the large black metal crates for extra large dogs. We got two of them from Amazon years ago for our dogs. I also have 2 extra small crates for my broody hens now, they are really small though, I wanted Daisy to at least be able to get a little exercise. She is so sweet to us, I hate to put her in there, but it had to be done.

Rocky, our Partridge Rock did the same thing. I think it takes awhile for the feathers to come back in and I thought I read that sometimes they do not get new feathers until their next molt. So maybe she had pulled those out a long time ago when she was first broody and they have not grown back yet? If she is not acting broody now that is probably the case?

Wow, those are some lucky chicks!! Great job!!! I bet you have a lot of fun watching them!My husband and I finished the new brooder (inspired by BYC member amferro103) yesterday and my son and I transferred all the chicks over. So much more room for them to grow! And, now they won't be blocking the guest room in my basement!
I put a small log in for them to climb. Very fun to watch their reaction and attempts to climb it.
Just have to add that dust bath and they should be all set! It's good to be a chick!
So far so good, but I moved her late yesterday afternoon. The younger 16 hens seemed to be fine and not so scared when I gave them their scratch before bed. There was the normal pecks in the heads here and there, but nothing like how Daisy was doing. She also would chase them from the nest boxes until she laid her egg, such a meany! We'll see today how everyone gets along.
Wow nice job! There sure are a lot of them!I just moved my babies out to the big brooder too. I finally got my small coop divided in half so one side is for my fancy chickens(plus the amputee partridge rock hen) and the other side is for the babies. Its an 8x8 ft shed so the sections are 4x8 ft approximately. It looks like it will work pretty well, though the fancies are miffed at me because they were use to having the entire coop to themselves. I used two 2x4s to frame the divider wall; hardware cloth on the bottom and chicken wire on the top. I decided to go with hardware cloth because I was worried that the adult birds could reach/injure babies through the chicken wire. By the time the babies can get up on the roost, they should be too large to fit through the chicken wire.
I have 2 week old Freedom Rangers from TSC in there with my week old Meyer babies. Now they finally have room to stretch their wings and run around
