Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

That's great that you got to see the Campines. My Golden Campine and both of my Andulasions love to fly to the highest spots too. How is your flock doing without the two mean ones? I do hope it works with Daisy, but I guess we'll see.

What did you order? So exciting!!!

Gotta love our DH's!!! Especially when they support our hobbies!!!

It'll probably be hard for you to stick to just 4, but I guess that you'll have to for now. Those sound like nice choices, can't wait to see them!!

Wow, those are some lucky chicks!! Great job!!! I bet you have a lot of fun watching them!

So far so good, but I moved her late yesterday afternoon. The younger 16 hens seemed to be fine and not so scared when I gave them their scratch before bed. There was the normal pecks in the heads here and there, but nothing like how Daisy was doing. She also would chase them from the nest boxes until she laid her egg, such a meany! We'll see today how everyone gets along.

My plan is to keep her separate until next weekend, I have to remind myself to not fall for her sweet clucks and sad look.
That's the tough part! It's like when our kids are being punished and can't go along for the fun activity with their siblings. Tough love! Good luck!

Yes, we "gotta love our DHs!!!" I could have built the brooder myself but it is much more fun to have him involved! Sunday is his only day off and he gave up a good portion of two of them to get this done for me. He's the best!

I just moved my babies out to the big brooder too. I finally got my small coop divided in half so one side is for my fancy chickens(plus the amputee partridge rock hen) and the other side is for the babies. Its an 8x8 ft shed so the sections are 4x8 ft approximately. It looks like it will work pretty well, though the fancies are miffed at me because they were use to having the entire coop to themselves. I used two 2x4s to frame the divider wall; hardware cloth on the bottom and chicken wire on the top. I decided to go with hardware cloth because I was worried that the adult birds could reach/injure babies through the chicken wire. By the time the babies can get up on the roost, they should be too large to fit through the chicken wire.

I have 2 week old Freedom Rangers from TSC in there with my week old Meyer babies. Now they finally have room to stretch their wings and run around

They seem to be doing good. They have to work out a new pecking order, but they are leaving Ellie alone. They were happy when it came time to lay eggs this morning, because they could actually get comfy in the nest boxes and not worry about the naughty ladies pulling them out of them.

Love the idea of an egg train.  I've been seeing a lot of posts on craiglist within an hour of me with lots of eggs and chicks. There's even someone 10 min from me with bcm chicks but since mine are coming in 3 weeks i don't want to take a chance with that age difference of putting them together.
This is my layer coop and run. Right now the run is divided to separate my 9 layers and my 26 8 week old chicks they have a small brooder that I can put a heat lamp in when it gets cold but I have not used it in a while. The layer coop is still under construction but they are using it now. I need to get it closed in a bit before next winter. Should be good for about 25 layers and part of the run will be separated for a breeding coop.

My husband and I finished the new brooder (inspired by BYC member amferro103) yesterday and my son and I transferred all the chicks over. So much more room for them to grow! And, now they won't be blocking the guest room in my basement!

I put a small log in for them to climb. Very fun to watch their reaction and attempts to climb it.

Just have to add that dust bath and they should be all set! It's good to be a chick!

That's awesome!! lol... I'm looking for the perfect sized cardboard box to use as mine. I'm a disgrace to the chicken world.

Again.... fantastic!!! I don't think they make a cardboard box big enough for all those chicks

That's really nice! Such a big run and they get to free range too? Great job :)

Sounds like a great mix!! Happy shopping!!
That's the bad thing... I've never been to a feed store to 'shop' for chicks. At least I know I have a limit so there's only so much damage I can do.

So maybe she had pulled those out a long time ago when she was first broody and they have not grown back yet? If she is not acting broody now that is probably the case?

Oh my goodness, I didn't think of that... she probably pulled them out last year and I never noticed! I'm so glad I didn't know about it because I would have been worried about her bare spots and our frigid winter. Poor girl.
I'm sure I'll post pics but as they're not from Meyer I won't be a pain about it.
I'm going to start looking for a crate the size of yours. I only have one that we used for guinea pigs and it's pretty small. I did put my broody in it last year but she was pretty cramped in it.

I'm a little freaked out here. I got an email that my chicks shipped today from Meyer and I signed up for updates from the USPS via email. I checked the tracking and it says they received the package today and the expected delivery date is Thursday
th.gif

I paid for, and it says, 'two day priority'! How can that be Thursday? Gack!

I've never bought hatchery chicks and I am totally regretting it and I don't even have them. Ugg....4 days???

I would call your PO and see if they have them. If they do, you can probably go pick them up right away.

Oh, I remember that feeling. Call your PO to see what's up and make sure they know to expect live chicks. Best bet is to ask them to hold them there so you can come get them. The regret will go away once you hear that box peeping. My chicks also arrived on a Thursday. I was sick for two days waiting for them. But they were all healthy.
