Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

It was time for our first hatchlings to go outside. Had to take some pics of them and the older girls...

Here is the little silkie that we hatched that was white with black chipmunk stripes when it hatched. It's getting black head feathers. Definitely a silver partridge, or maybe even closer to plain partridge. We'll see.

Our barnevelder/maran rooster we hatched

White bantam frizzle cochin from the feed store. With a buff silkie from the same place behind her (a friend is taking the silkie)

Hard to see but this is a black/blue silkie (not enough feathers to really tell which yet) we hatched and the maranx rooster and what was marked as a javaX. The Java is in the middle. It is getting the prettiest feathers. They are a dark blue with black lacing. Our real estate agent is buying her. I'm a little disappointed because I want to see how she turns out. Open the pic bigger to see the pretty feathers.

Our mystery chick from Meyer that turned out to be a welsummer, stretching her wing. She loves to sit on top of the waterer. She is the most docile bird and lets the younger ones push her around.

Our bantam EE from Kiowa country corner. I love her coloring.

Our mottled bantam frizzle cochin we hatched from a BYC member's Mille Fleur pen. With the other blue/black silkie and the java

Here's all but two of our hatchlings enjoying the dust bath area. The missing ones are the lavender silkie and the BO mix. The BO mix was sold and the lavender silkie hid when the pecking order stuff started and hadn't come back out yet when I was taking pics. I'll have to go back out and try to get one of her.

Wow, trsturself, your birds are so interesting! I feel like I went for the plain vanilla breeds!

I built my birds a waterer, today. Once I had it in at the right level, it took them less than 5 minutes to figure out what it was and how to use it. Very cool!

I am so happy not to have to clean their fountain anymore! They loved to sit on top and get it dirty and no matter how high I raised it, they still filled it with pine shavings and you know what! Hopefully, this set up will keep them healthier. I am going to build a second one when we move them out into the coop.

Great job! I made one last year after getting fed up with the fountain. This year I might have to make it automatic refill! Don't know if I'm THAT clever though.

If you have a water source close enough, you can do it!!

I have a hose I could run out there and I even bought the bulb thingy. I have been making it more complicated than it is. Plus procrastinating. It won't be long before I get tired of refilling it.

We have one of those for the coop too with a 2 gallon bucket hooked to it. I refill the bucket every couple days with a hose. I used to have one for our old brooder but it didn't work with the new one and I never got around to changing it. I think our coop one will need some fixing before we can use it again. I think the subzero temps this winter did it in. Luckily they are easy to make. :)

I let my girls out tonight for the first time tonight!! Henrietta my BR wouldn't come out. We figure she's the smart one. Junior went outside to free range and never returned then big red went out only to never return. LOL. It was only for 30 minutes but they pecked and scratched around a bit. But tonight my DH looked up one of the weeds we have all around and it was said to be poisonous to cattle so now I'm worried about them eating it. It's called pile wort or lesser celandine. Anyone know about this? They say if there's lots to eat they won't bother with poisonous plants but we don't have a ton for them to eat. We also have trumpet vine which I know is poisonous to them. So now what??

That's great...does the hose hook up to it?

I wish I could help, I am not sure about what plants are good or bad for chickens. Maybe once everything else starts coming in you can try again and in the meantime get rid of the questionable plants?

How are your chickens doing without the mean RIR there? How are the ones with missing feathers doing?

I can't get rid of the pile wort because thats a weed and it's everywhere. Our property back up to the woods and it's all along the edges. I think I'll just wait a bit like you said and try again. It should last until mid May I think.

I was away for a few days so I haven't really been able to watch how they are without the mean RIR but I was just out there now and there are a few sitting happily in the nests. They must be relieved to not be chased out! It looks so empty in the coop and run with 2 gone.

I gave Izzy my EE a spa day a few days ago because she had a messy vent and runny poo. I thought she'd freak out but I soaked her in epsom salts then had her all cozy in a towel on her back as I blew her dry and she fell asleep. It was so cute I wanted to take a pic but didn't have the camera around. She still has runny poo though. I'm giving them all yogurt every other day. Sheesh, I never thought there'd be so many issues with my hens especially since they don't free range. The ones missing feathers are still missing them and Moe my white cochin is missing the most. Her underside is completely bare. I just gave her and a few others another check and absolutely no lice (I think at this point I'd see eggs) and obviously no signs of mites but it's daytime. I am really perplexed.
But they all act completely normal, eating normally and normal poo except for Izzy. Last 2 days I got 6 eggs from 11 girls so maybe that's a sign of something? Although Izzy is laying regularly. I just don't know. I'll just keep watching.
