Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Ooh...I love your speckled eggs too. I wish I had some. Is that breed specific or chicken specific?
Mine are hen specific and I notice more with spots when I wash them they show up. My BO, BR, CM's and a couple others get spots when they are washed and some show before washing too.

My speckled eggs are chicken specific but welsummers are known for having spotted eggs. I have about 90 hens and only get five-six speckled eggs a day. One of my EE hens used to consistently lay a spotted green egg but now they are mostly plain.
My older EE is the same, sometime there are brown spots on her olive green egg and sometimes it is solid.
Thanks for this. I'm thinking they are just doing it to themselves for some reason. feather loss is only on their undersides, not on their backs. Except for the one BA has some loss on her head and I'm going to keep watching to see if the spot stays the same size or gets bigger. Stays the same size then it was the mean RIR, gets bigger then it is another one doing it. I have the camera in the coop and I'm going to start watching them more at night to see if I see anything going on. But like the others, I am thinking it's not lice/mites. Thank you for sending the link and if you come across anything else feel free to pass it to me. I saw a few threads with pics of people having the same exact issues, in fact I thought one of the pics was my own! But there was never any resolution to the threads. People posting concerns/questions about 'what is this' and never a resolution.

That's so cute... I'd love to see a pic of a broody hen and rabbit together.

We don't have a nipple system but we collect the rainwater off the run roof into a large trashcan that I can then access from inside the run. To keep it from freezing all winter DH put a submersible water heater typically used for horses or ponds and it worked perfectly. I think it automatically comes on when it goes below 40 degrees.

Pretty!! Love the speckled ones too.
Maybe their hens feather back in eventually and they never post back how they're doing? Weird.

If you ever get a chance I'd love to see your watering system setup. Sounds neat. I've tried the nipple system and the cups, but then just found it easier to just use the big regular plastic waterer. I thought about hooking up one of these to an hose, but am not brave enough to try something new yet. It's supposed to make it where you never have to refill again. It's a Little Giant Automatic Game Bird Fount Waterer. Not sure if anyone on here has tried one or not?

Do you guys get the silk worms or inch worms where you live? I am so sick of finding them crawling on me and my hair. Yuck!

I'm out of town now but DH said he saw the bunny in the nest box with her when he put them away last night. I'll tell him to try to get a pic if he sees it again.
I gave the rabbit a trim yesterday so she doesn't look very pretty. She's long haired though and she gets all matted over the winter. So once the weather gets warm we cut it down.

Our BR lays an occasional speckled egg. I love them too. I'm happy to hear the Welsummers are known for it. I hope ours gives us some when she starts laying.

If you do a search for winterizing nipples there is a whole thread about it. After reading that I decided to just go with the rubber bowls in the winter. They are easy to get the ice out of and it's no big deal to carry a pitcher of water out with me in the morning. I put it on a cement block do they don't scratch ad much into it but can still reach it.they get it dirty enough that I dump it each morning but not so dirty that I worry about them drinking it. It's mostly just food from their breaks that gets in there.

Btw, I'm on my phone and can't see my while reply so forgive any autocorrects that might have happened that I didn't catch.

I finally got outside and took some pictures of the ladies and Happy Easter Everyone!

Big Mama - 1 yr and 2 month BO

Pepper- 1 year 2 month BR

Ellie- EE 39 weeks

Spash - Blue Andulasion 39 wks

Olive- EE- 1 yr 2 months- my first broody girl last year

Buffy - BLP - 39 weeks

Campi- Golden Campine - 39 weeks

My leghorns- Izzie in the back with the comb over comb and Mini in the front- 39 weeks

Blackie - BA 39 weeks - my biggest chicken

Ash- RIR - 1 yr 2 months

Rocky - PR- 39 weeks- already broody once this year but laying again

Lacie- GLW - 39 weeks

Greta -EE 39 weeks

Zany - CM - lays the darkest egg of all - 39 weeks

Dottie - CW - 39 weeks- one of the most shy ones

Ginger- Golden Buff- 39 weeks- lays jumbo eggs everyday- sometimes in a lavender color

Sally the SF, Andi- Blue Andulasion and Cuckoo the CM all 39 weeks. Cuckoo is my current broody hen and has a couple more days in the broody breaker pen. Oh I found those dishes for cages on Amazon for less then $2 each. They are great for food and water in cages since she keeps spilling the others.

I finally made a real ladder for them in the run.

Here is a look at the work the city has been doing. We have no grass on the side and back yard. That's our house on the right and the creek they have been working on to the left.

Our front yard is completely mud too. They did build up the front for us a lot and they are supposed to seed the front and back in the next week. They finally pulled all the equipment out of our yard too which was nice.

Here is a close up of the creek. They widened it a lot and also made it snake around to control the water. They planter stakes of different kinds of plants on the side of the creek. Those stakes should grow into really big plants in a few years. Now it looks pretty bare.

Right now even if I let the chickens free we do not have much areas to free range. We did mow the current grassy area that we have and bagged all of it and gave them the chopped up grass.

Here is our one other grassy area. If you look way down you can see another muddy stream at the bottom of the hill. That is not the creek that is our yard and hopefully they can figured out a way to fix the flooding down there. It has gotten a lot worse since the construction work. I am so so ready to have our yard back and to see it full of green grass again.

Your birds are beautiful and your yard is going to be great! Congrats!!!

Lynn your pictures are great!! How many eggs are you getting a day now? Are they finally using all the nests?
I can't wait to see your yard all finished - I'm sure you can't wait either. Did you say you're on an acre? It really looks larger than that.
I'm still looking for the right size cage for a broody/sick cage on craigslist for my girls but I'm going to have to get those feeder cups... they are perfect!!

I was looking at Meyers site and noticed that they FINALY! Had 2 female blue amaricanas availible on my next order date!!! Took me about 2 seconds to get on the phone. First time I've seen them all year!

That's great!! You have to keep checking, you never know what will pop up

I was just on there as well and they had a Salmon Faverolle, Leghorn, Polish and Welsummer which are all on my want list and was toying with the idea of ordering to add to my other chicks coming this week but luckily the $50 shipping charge snapped me back to reality.
NEXT year for sure!!!!!

Hopefully my chicks get to the feed store by Wed but I have to call and find out.

We got 2 polish and 1 Buckeye. Meyer the buckeye died. Chickawaw and Houdini are about 1 year old today. I showed them at our county fair last year.

x2 Great photos of your girls.
Thanks everyone!

We average 14 to 18 a day now, One day we had 20. So lots for us.

They are using all the nests too and it helps having so many nests when I get a broody. Four nest and just one broody was too much.

We have .79 of an acre, so not quite one. The part near the creek will be a conservation/water easement area and we won't be able to bother it. So technically will have a little less land now too but with them building up the rest of the land and seeding it, plus basically clearing all the land, we come out ahead in the long run.

Amazon has small dog cages around $20, that's what I use for broodies.
