Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Well, looks like mistake #3 with my recent Meyers order. Dang. First, they gave me a weak sultan that died within 12 hours of picking up the order. Then, they gave me a white Cochin instead of a Blue Orpington. (duh, not even similar). )Now it appears that my white crested blue polish is actually a white crested black polish. I originally thought the silver blue tinted polish was correct, but she has turned into my silver laced polish.

On top of that, I believe my female silver laced Wyandotte is actually a Roo, as she/he has had a rose comb and wattles since week one.

Very frustrated for sure.

I don't know all the details about the history of your problems with them, but in fairness when you order "blue" anything you get BBS (blue, black, splash). Also, sultans are a "touchy" breed so I wouldn't really blame the seller/hatchery for them passing. I am not certain about Meyers, but I know some hatcheries will substitute certain breeds in your order if you don't specifically say "no subs".

Like I said, I don't know your specifics, just playing devil's advocate. I personally never have had a issue with Meyers. I don't do alot of hatchery buying anymore but years ago I had tried a handful out and to be honest, Meyers is the one I go to first when I do want a hatchery quality order.

I am usually VERY happy with Meyers, but this time not so much. I do realize that B/B/S is a possibility when you order most blue breeds, but Meyer has that disclaimer on every blue breed EXCEPT polish. Sort of led me to believe it wouldn't be a problem. As far as sultans go, if they are that frail then they should have added a heat pack and grogel to the box and advised me as to what to watch for. That's why I drove 2 hours to pick them up. As far as substitutions, I indicated no substitutions to my order. They pointed out the blue polish to me at the store, which turned out to not be a blue polish.

None of this is a big deal. I was just venting after looking at the HUGE rose comb on the Wyandotte.

My chickens hate change too and really complain a lot when I do move things around. It is nice to get the house back after chick brooding, isn't it?
Yes, I love not having to dust every day!! Although now I am always sitting in the garage watching them :)
They are used to it now and have settled in fine. But, the weather is crazy right now - it hit 85 degrees today and the 60's at night but now it will be back to the 40
s at night so I'll have to keep an eye on the temp in there to make sure the heater will still be effective. The only one that will have a problem will be Sweet Pea... I'll have to post a pic of her. She won't have feathers for another 3 weeks it looks like!!

I have a question for everyone who has ordered from Meyer Hatchery. It was 4 weeks yesterday until I get my chicks from them, and I'm wondering if they will tell me when the eggs for my order are set. Or do they only update the status of your order the day they ship? I've been checking their website every couple days lately to see if they've updated my status at all. It still says that my order will be shipped May 7-9.

Here is our CW now, she caught up with feathering mostly, still is the smallest of the grou and needs a few more head feathers. She really needs a different name, my daughter named her Fred because she was the first to scratch at her food and so she named her Fred Astaire since it looked like she was dancing. She is much too pretty to be named Fred.

She has such beautiful coloring and a very cute fluffy butt too.

You will just get the email that they shipped your order the day they ship it with the estimated time frame of arrival with the USPS tracking number. If you requested other ways to be contacted they may do that too, I only was setup for an email notice.

Here is what my email said and it had the tracking info below it. I received my chicks on Wednesday the 13th at 7:30am. I requested the post office to call me when they arrived, which they did and I picked them up before they opened.

"Dear LYNN , your poultry order has shipped!

Expected Poultry Arrival: Tuesday Feb 12, 2013 through Thursday Feb 14, 2013"

Oh she is soooo pretty!!! That is why I ordered one... love the fluffy butt too. I wondered about the name Fred but didn't ask.
I'll get a pic of mine later today. Sweet Pea's name is slowly turning into the name PipSqueak by my husband.

My Meyer girls are 10 months old today, but I can't upload on this computer so I'll have to post their 10 month pictures later.

In the mean time, here's my blue splash Marans, Frou-Frou, after getting caught in a downpour of rain yesterday. Frou-Frou is not amused.

She's even cute all wet!

I'd love to see pictures of Sweet Pea, uh, I mean PipSqueak. I'm going to try to change Fred's name to Freida, we'll see if everyone agrees.
