Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Cuckoo is in her 3rd day sleeping in the broody cage. I keep thinking she's done and I feel guilty and let her out when they free range. She free ranges a couple hours and stays out with the rest but each night I look in the coop and she is back in the nest box so I've been moving her to the cage every night. Maybe if I left her in the cage all the time? This is her 2nd time being broody.

Nancy- all your chicks are so cute, love those hairdos too! I hope you figure out what's up with your cochin. That's so odd.

I have zero experience with a broody, but for some reason I think leaving in the cage has been more successful.

Oh yeah, so the guy who was going to take two of my cockerels... He was just starting out and I think I may have accidentally talked him out of it. Duh! I was really so skeptical of someone wanting them. So I asked him if he had chickens or was just getting started. When he said he was just starting and only wanted a few layers, I told him two roos might be too many. I offered to hold one for him until he got some girls, but haven't heard back. Oh well.

You will find the right person. If he only wants layers, then why is he looking at roos?? He does know that roos don't have anything to do with eggs except put babies in those eggs...right?

Lol. Idk! I think my explanation of that is why I still have these guys. Oh well. I'm sure it's better this way. Trying to be patient...as usual.

Boy it is good to be home! 2500 miles driven this last week!
Despite horrible weather while we were gone all our girls appear to be doing well. :)
Our lone survivor of our youngest group became very attached to us. I was out getting the chickens setup before we left and she would run over to me and jump on my lap, then up to my shoulder/head. I've never had a chicken that would do that before. Since she doesn't have a flock and gets picked on by the older girls we decided to take her with us. She loved the car ride!

Here she is while I was tending to the other chickens.

And here she is asleep on my daughter's shoulder in the car. She is wearing a harness my daughter made for her (she only wore it for a few minutes). Most of the time she sat on the back of our chairs, perfectly content.

I know. I feel so bad for them stuck in the cage. But laying hens in an egg mill would probably have 4 shoved in a cage the size you're using and that's for their whole short life. So 3 days or so won't be so bad. Of course I'm saying this to make myself feel better. I'm off to put Moe in her cage! She was broody 2x last year but I can tell by her demeanor she's much more serious this time. I went out and put her on the roost last night after dark but by the time I got to the house and looked on the camera she had jumped down and back into the box. She never did that last year. So I gotta do the cage today too.

Thx. Now I'm reading a ton about the depluming mite but there's not much out there. Apparently you can't see them and it makes them very itchy and they pull their feathers out from overpreening. I'm thinking it's that. Trying to read all I can but I think that's what it may be.

LOL, but if he took them it could have been a very bad experience for him and the boys so it's a good thing.
