I'm not sure but I think that's the most enabling thing I've ever heard

Trust me, I thought about it. (I know I shouldn't think, just act) Especially because the Exchequer Leghorn is available... but It would be way to crowded in the coop right now and with the heat of the summer, It would be even hotter in there. I really have to be patient.
Yeah me too, I kind of have "been there and done that" and that's why I really have more chickens then I need now. It is way too hard to not "over buy." They look so small and cute when they are little. They're still cute when they are big, but they are so big! It is so hard to imagine when you first start out how big they really get and also how much space they really need. In our case too is realizing how much damage they can do when free ranging. Those feathered friends of ours can really kill some grass!

You're killin' me... now I want them more than ever. If one becomes available for my week I'm going to switch from either the white leghorn, EE or SLW to Exchequer.

I read something, can't remember where, but the woman said she can tell when her flock needs to be wormed because there's poo on the eggs. But I have no idea if that's true or not. Your explanation sounds more plausible.
I have considered that too but I have been poop inspecting and it all looks normal and the chickens all look very healthy even Andi looks great except for her rear which actually is looking a little better now after a nice little trim and cleaning. At least it's warm so having a naked rear should not bother her too much. She should enjoy the cool breeze down there.

They're so pretty!! Andi's comb is huge! I'm glad to hear your CW is nice; mine is pretty mean to the little ones. Love all your EE's colorings but Greta is really striking in that photo.
The first CW, Fred or Freida that we had was even nicer, she would squat and everything. Dottie looks identical to her but I hate that we can't touch her. She is one of the lowest in the pecking order but she has lots of friends in high places. I say that because when we moved them to the new coop, one of the leghorns attacked my husband to defend Dottie when he was picking her up. Funniest thing!

Ummm I have not heard of them, but you can bet Im going to look them up in about 30 seconds! Lol.
I dont have a cochin at all yet. I wouldnt mind at least one, as long as its a LF.
I had my chicks in my living room for a month this winter! Lol. It was the warmest room in the house! I got a few looks from my mother in law though...she doesnt get it

Im glad im not the only one who has a list! Lol.
Annnnd...I followed you both on pinterest..hope that's not creepy lol
Yup, they're LF. I have all LF except for one bantam Silkie and he/she is smaller than the rest. I think Cochins are so pretty but they do go broody and don't lay a ton of eggs. But sometimes you gotta get a few chickens for looks right?? Love those blue Cochins too!!

:) Yep! In order to have all blue chicks you need to breed a black chicken with a splash chicken (doesn't matter which is the hen and which is the rooster) but the hatcheries for whatever reason are breeding blue to blue and with that you get 50% blue, 25% splash (the almost white ones you see but they can be more grey and 25% black. They could also breed blue and splash and get 50% each.
Great info. I hadn't really thought about it until I was seeing pics where they looked so different. But the 25% black... do you mean they come out solid black?

A month earlier means the little ones will be that much bigger and better able to take a cold winter. Sounds like a good thing to me!!!
I hadn't thought of that... I'm def. going to do it now!!

Let me see if I can finally post pics of my 2 month olds..First days in the coop then run...
.Edna the Black Australorp, Bobbie, the Dominique, Eleanor the EE
Eleanor
Bobbie
Eggnes the BR we think, Bobbie and Eleanor
Loving the run... they go inside at dusk every night on their own, but had a wicked thunderstorm for the first time and they huddled in the corner of the run instead of going inside.... poor Marty nearly had a heart attack checking on them in the lightening and then again in the wicked downpour... I was at work and he was a good chicken Daddy... Cannot believe they are only 2 months old... Sooooo huge! I will be a wreck when we have to go on vacation... Good thing my friends are lining up to take care of them while we are gone... They are spoiled... All Meyer Chicks...
So cute. You're lucky you have people lining up to take care of them when you are away. My sister already told me there's no way she would do it. LOL, it's fine. She is absolutely not an animal person. No animals at all!! But she does eat their eggs!!

I know... getting nervous about how many I will have. I think I'll get 6 rather than 7 chicks. LOL... like that will make a huge difference!!
May save the SLW or SS for another time. Funny story about your CW... never heard of that happening!!

1st pic of the trip! Half way there & at a rest stop in the other side of Cincinnati, before you get to Cleveland. Next stop Meyer's!!

Take pics at Meyer if you can!!!!

I have never had cochins so I can not say anything on them (I so want the mottled cochin bantams!) but I do have speckled Sussex girls. They are close to being my favorite! so sweet and love being with you. They are not laying yet so I cannot say how good of a layer they are or egg colors (love all the colors!). I love all my Meyer's girls!

Nope, just black where the blue would be, in this case the lacing, they keep the red. Think Gold Laced Wyandottes only instead of the gold you have a darker red.

The roo in this album has black lacing: http://unclebeesbirds.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=10554500
as does this pullet: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/466415/lightbox/post/10380088/id/5510130

Oh and this page is pretty interesting for Wyandotte genetics if you ever wondered what happened when you cross silver with gold, apparently they don't muddle but they can create a sex link if the male is Gold with female chicks being gold and males being silver. But if dad is Silver all the chicks are silver. And there are some pics of splash laced silver and blue laced silver! http://www.shellspoultry.com/genetics.php

Thanks for your opinion...
The barn where I work (where she got the chicks with mites) has a few SS and they are the friendliest!! When I crouch down the 2 chicks come running over just for some attention. She got 3 BLRW and they are pretty friendly as well. The rest, not at all. I think I may go with SS because I'm going to get an Exchequer Leghorn so that will be a pretty black/white and I have my BR already. I don't have any brown with white spots though.

Really interesting and all such pretty birds. That's one I wouldn't mind which color I got. All pretty. that last page was so informative. Maybe one day I'll be able to have a rooster and play around with genetics.
