Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I am behind on the new postings....but I have to tell you guys since I am sworn to secrecy right now with most everyone else.

I AM GOING TO BE A GRANDMA!!!!!!!!!!!!! :weee

My son and daughter-in-law just came over to tell us. God willing everything will go well and the baby is due around March 15th, it is very early now in the pregnancy so they are waiting to tell everyone except the immediate family. I know all of you won't be telling anyone else around me, so I know it is safe to tell you.

Awesome news!!! That is so exciting. You'll be a fantastic grandmother to very lucky kids!!!

Ha ha, maybe the following summer since the little one will just be a "bantam human" next year.

The place my friend got her chicks.... in Lancaster... she paid a fortune and they were covered in mites and she didn't even get what she ordered! Supposed to be 2 Ameraucana and only got one and it's a cockerel. She paid for all pullets. She ordered 2 BLRW and got 3, was supposed to get a Swedish Flower Hen and it's not. I'm not sure what that one is either...lighter than a buff color and feathered feet. But at least she'll get eggs from it and it's cute. So many problems and the place with a pig-sty!

I think I remember this story now. (Old age is catching up with me, need to be reminded more often.) Some friends of ours just started with chickens a few months ago and they've lost a lot and keep getting more chicks. Originally I was thinking about asking them where they got their chicks, but after hearing their stories about all the trouble, I decided I would not even bother asking. I may ask so I can make sure I avoid the place. They even are looking for some people to take a few of their RIR's that they got from that place and we're saying "nope" we have enough chickens.

I hope it works out for your friend. I am not having any luck looking for local places, the one farm we need go to a couple months ago seemed to have way too many ducklings, ducks, chickens and chicks all in one place and the ducklings kept escaping because they had no water. The lady that owns the place was surprised that we even showed up to her farm even though we followed the hours on her website. Plus she said she was staying in that day and relaxing while she had tubs of chicks and ducklings in a hot shed with no water! So nope, not a place that we want chicks from.

I know... the Alpacas are so sweet. Names are Sophie, Faye and Heather. They look like stuffed animals

I wish we had a lot of land, I'd love some of those too. Maybe it is good that we are limited. I wood have a zoo here if I could.

This is really the reason why I've ordered from Meyer twice. I cannot find many locals selling chickens and the ones that do sell them, either seem shady or refuse to sell single pullets. Plus the other hatcheries randomly send extras. That is not okay with me. So, I will stay patient with my overprotective seller. It's better than neglectful. And...

37 more days till my hatch date!

Don't know how I missed this the first time! But yes, me too!!! I'm always dreaming of more land and more gardens/animals. Is have to quit my job to take care of it all. Oh darn! LOL.

My new coop is here!!! I decided to go with the local handyman I found on craigslist who builds coops as a side job. This coop is pretty darn nice & he delivered/set it up for me.

It's the one I posted the link here before. I am going to customize a few things: add some more ventilation, change the roost setup, add a poop board. But those are very minor things in the grand scheme of things.

Tomorrow I am going to go get a 1 gallon container of Blackjack 57 and get the floor and part of the sides coated. When that dries, I will start on painting the inside using light colored "oops" paint. The outside is going to be a dark blue with grey accents.

SOOO EXCITED!!! IT's REAL!!!!

@LynnEBC and @Christine9 I am right there with you! I would love to have a couple of Jersey cows, draft horses and alpaca along with more chickens. It's funny, my Mom is amazed that I have 3 dogs and chickens because she never thought I liked animals! Haha. People can change, too!

Btw, thanks to all who responded about the false alarm egg song and to my amazement regarding the differences between chickens of the same breed. Very helpful and insightful comments! And, you are so right, @EurekaChic, thanks for pointing out the obvious. I should have realized that chickens should have differences just like people and dogs do.. I should especially realize this because I have brown hair and brown eyes and am 4 inches taller than my blond, blue eyed twin sister!! Lol
