Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I don't know if it is the photos or the lack of my experience, but, to me, the first and last photos look like they are RIR hens and the middle photos look like RIR roos. What makes you think you have Buckeyes? Nice veggies, btw!?
Ok so those pictures weren't the best examples I agree with you the first pic we thought was a roo, but in dealing with Meyer they said it is a hen, I will post a pic of her with her legs. Also a better pic of the RR roo, his comb and waddle are much more pronouced. So based on that they other two reddish one's are smaller, I think one might be a RR hen and then I think a buckeye as he coloring is different and her comb & waddle are different. Thanks on the veggies, we planted 16 tomatoe plants and they are starting to explode the girls love the snacks from the garden,

How old are they??

They are just 15 weeks.

That's a whole different kind of chicken math!

Good for you for your generosity!

I have a feeling I will be giving away more than I sell. My niece already gave me about 15 cartons that she has saved since she first heard that I was getting chicks. Isn't she sweet? I know she is hoping that I re-gift them to her full of eggs!
Well my two grown sons and other family members get most of them. I do sell a few to a neighbor and coworkers. My sons are the ones "in need". Our oldest son and his wife are on the Paleo diet and that requires a lot of eggs.

I just say "egg carton" and "poof" I end up with way too many! So many hopeful people wanting free eggs.

Love having chickens!
Beautiful!!!

We just had chicks shipped. The first shipment died, unfortunately - they were shipped with a heat pack (4 chicks) and may have been mishandled by the post office.. but the consensus seems to be they died of heat stroke/hot car. The second shipment arrived on Tuesday (this past Tuesday) - NO heat pack in the box and all five chicks were lively and healthy. As long as the post office doesn't leave them in a hot truck, they will be fine. I really think the lack of a heat pack in the box greatly helped my most recent delivery. The temps are warm enough & with 5 chicks in the little box, they were able to keep themselves warm. They're 4 days old now and happy & healthy (and trying to fly)!
Oh wow, sorry for the loss of the first batch. I am glad to hear that you have more now and are enjoying them. You'll have to share some pics with us when you get a chance.

Thanks for the link. I'll look it up. That would probably help me remember to record things.

I order all my grains/seeds from Azure and it gets delivered once a month. I do mostly organic (all non GMO) and it costs me $.44/lb I could get A LOT cheaper at our local feed store but the people I sell to wouldn't buy them if they weren't non-gmo. Plus I feel better eating that way. They have pellets and crumbles for sale also which I used to do but found mixing it myself and fermenting it was cheaper and the girls like it better.
I have sold/given away 7 dozen eggs so far this month. I flew into S. CA today and have a dozen in my suitcase (checked) for my cousin. Fingers crossed they made it! I am waiting for my mom to get in (30min) before I get to retrieve my bag. The baggage office called me but didn't leave a message. I'm hoping it was just to make sure I planned to pick it up and not to tell me my bag is leaking!
I need to check out Azure sometime too. I like the idea of non GMO, but it is a too much to think about right now. So we'll stay with Dumour from TSC for now, but I am going to revisit this subject in the future.

I just saw that meyer has blue red laced whyndottes available for aug 4th they have not had any availible the last few times I looked. I can't remember who it was that was looking for them.....
Oh gosh!!!

I have my third hatch being shipped on the 11th I was never going to have this many chickens! I need to start selling off my older layers but they are giving me so many eggs I have to keep the supply up! Oh well as soon as more of my young ones start laying I will get rid of the older ones and then work on getting rid of all but maybe 2 or 3 breeds and work on just those..... But you have to try them all first right!?
This next order has all the remaining meyer breeds that I have been Intrested in so we will see if I settle down after this;-P
Not much longer! Sounds like a great plan and setup you have.

Hey there everyone. Been a long time since I have been on here. Work and school has kept me hoppin. We have gotten a shipment of ducklings and chicks this year. The duckies are already outside in the pen with the flock (inserted themselves pretty seamlessly this time) the chicks are still in the juvenile pen.
Blue Indian Runner, Cayuga, and Jumbo Pekin

Silver laced polish, partridge cochin, light brahma, golden lakenvelder, EE, deleware, columbian wyandotte, buff chantecler, black australorp, and the MM was a barred rock.
They are so cute!!! You really make me want ducks and more chicks!!! I have to stop looking at all these pictures, way too tempting!!

- summer!
Now your chickens are beautiful...but those tomatoes!!! Wow, so gorgeous!!!

I have not had too much luck yet with my large tomatoes this year since I got a late start, but I still have hope. Here's my recent garden bounty. Not much, but delicious!

@trsturself
So I've heard a lot of people use azure for chicken feed. I love this idea, however the whole thing is really overwhelming for me. I guess I don't know where to start.
What do you get and how do you mix it? I'm terrified I will not feed them the right stuff.

Sounds like a great plan. Do you have the space to house them all over the winter? How many will you have when you get your new hatch?
Believe it or not I started last year with 9 birds and built a coop and run that will house 28. But of course when you start selling extra eggs you start seeing them pay for them selfs and you think I could make some extra money on this! So the run was expanded and breeding pens were made and now I have a place that can house 53 adult birds.
The problem is I have 26 adults 20 12 week juveniles and 1 white turkey. I have 15 coming on the 11th..... So some will have to go.
I'm lucky to live in a climate that I can let them free range for the most part all year around. I think the only time they appreciate the coop is in the summer heat! During the winter months I have to take down any out door roost to try to force them in the coop.
My plan is to only have about 25-30 layers 4-5 roosters and a few silkies by next spring. I do not need all of the 15 coming, I was just trying to get about 5 but I don't like shipping that few and shipping is cheaper when you order 15. And it seems to be easy to sell off extra pullets. So that is why my friends disown me and my wife while standing tall beside me keeps sending me dirty looks.....
That's a lot of birds! I wish I could do all that too!

So Ginger, our Golden Buff stayed out all last night along with our dog Maxie who always stays out all night. She was fine this morning and Maxie did not bother her. I need to do make sure Ginger is in next time. Incidents like this make me hopeful that maybe Maxie knows better then to hurt them? Maybe she is used to them? Maybe I've just been lucky?

So a lot of people are getting chicks in the next week or so right? Who's getting what? How many? Inquiring minds want to know....or maybe just me...

Yay for Maxie. I think that's a sign she will not hurt them. Or maybe Ginger was roosting and lessened any temptation. ??

My babies come in two weeks...
1 wellie
2 blue ameraucanas
1 cuckoo marans
1 lav orp
1 light brahma
1 speckled Sussex
Woohoo!

Love your choices!

@LynnEBC I think it is a good sign that there is hope for Maxie and the chickens. Very jealous of your fresh veggies. Another year when I was too busy to get a vegetable garden going. My perennial gardens are looking pretty good, at least.

So that's a good amount and with the leghorn you'll have such a big egg variety. I'm just living through you guys this year, until next year when we can get more. It'll be easier to wait once winter gets here, since then I would not want to order because of the cold weather.

It's so hard to decide with Maxie, she's killed so many small animals around here. I guess we'll just ease up a little but still keep them separate. Maybe I can worry a little less. That's always a good thing.

I'm jealous of your perennials, we still rebuilding from the construction but I am finally at the point where I feel like my garden is growing and looking good. I still want to grow more vegetables and have many more raised beds around the house. If it were up to me, most of the grassy area would have something edible growing there, but my husband likes his grass, so I have to compromise. He agreed about getting chickens, so I have to let him enjoy his grass and riding lawnmower.

Yikes! The schuylkill. I lived in willow grove in Montgomery county until about 8 years ago. I do not miss that traffic. When we drive up there now, I won't go through DC or Philly unless it's the middle of the night. The traffic is just unbelievable!
I'm about 25 min from Willow Grove!! Just a couple of exits on the PA Tpk. Worked at the Bennigan's there when I was in college ... a lifetime ago

Yay! Figured out the coop expansion plans. Seems like there will be a grow out area! How exciting. I love not having chickens in the house.
I know... I love when they are finally out of the house. But then it's harder to give them individual attention too. Can't wait to see pics. I love looking at everyone's set up.

Nice!! We have a couple of tomato plants and Jalepeno plants in pots. Thats it here. Maybe if we move someday and get that 30 acres in Lancaster!!

That's great about Maxie. Sounds like she is doing better. Is Maxie tied up at night outside? We left one outside by accident and at dusk it went walking past the family room window heading for the low branches of the pine trees. So funny to watch her. We ran out and got her inside but she didn't seem too upset. Their instincts just kick in I guess.

Mine are coming in a week... Aug 5th or 6th hopefully!

!!!!! Nice selection :)

I'm trying to figure out if my Buff Brahma is the one consistently laying a soft shelled egg everyday... should I put her in a cage overnight to see if it's her? Almost every morning are the remnants of an egg on the poop board... a little eggy mess (what the girls didn't scarf down) and sometimes the soft rubber shell. I think my BR is doing it once in a while too but it's gotta be my BB too.
I never ever see her in a nest. I mean never. Yet she squats and she used to lay a pretty egg with purple speckles on it and I never get one anymore. I do have to get rid of a few and would
hate to get rid of the wrong one.
As soon as my broody is broken I can try it out. I thought she was... I let her out this morning and she roosted on a branch for a few hours then I caught her back in the nest. She's so sneaky.
