Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Forgive me if I glazed over them when trying to catch up but I'd love to see photos of your littlest ones, especially the suspect SS!
I'm going to take pics really soon. I just got finished moving my 4 1/2 month olds into the big coop... boy were they upset about that!! And getting the little coop cleaned out and moving the little ones out there hopefully tomorrow. I NEED them out of the garage desperately. LOL.... box to small and they are pooping everywhere!! They are a mix of 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 week olds. My OE has a single comb so I don't hold out to much hope for an olive egg. OH... I forgot to mention .... my other CCL laid her first egg today!!! It's olive green... so either the breeder 'tricked' me when she said they laid sky blue eggs or she didn't know either?? I'm thinking the first. But, the eggs are beautiful and the girls are just so pretty in person. The pics don't do them justice. Here are my 2 CCL eggs. The one on the left is my newer layer... they are very small (NOT Meyer Girls...) And a few pics of them today... Bonnie Blue who laid today... group shot... Leyla... her comb just popped out overnight and turning red!!
It is definitely disappointing to get olive green instead of sky blue. But, I agree, it sure is a beautiful color!! Great photos of some of your girls! I look forward to seeing more!

That's disappointing that they both laid olive eggs. Not that olive eggs are bad but just not what you are expecting. We got our CCL from the same breeder we hatched eggs from so we know her lines are a light blue. But our EE often lays eggs nearly the same color. I had them all in an egg carton together and you couldn't tell them apart. But our EE's egg changes color. I had 3 in a row that were completely different once. The CCL sell for more than the EE though, that's why we got them.
We are lucky, both of our CCLs got great coloring. Hope their egg color follows suit. :)

Complaining on here about our bantam EE hasn't worked yet.

I will add that I think my SS is a male... it's about 4 1/2 weeks old and no tail to speak of, very slow feathering and pretty big legs to go along with all that. So I guess we'll wait it out together!!
Nancy,, I had a Meyer SS that drove me near batty thinking that she was a roo. They had all ready sent me a roo in the past so I was convinced. She had so many things pointing towards roo, but then her comb never kept growing, and the only thing that kept me hanging on was her body shape. It was far more rectangular than the round the males have. I truly think SS are a very difficult breed to sex. She is 18 weeks, and a BIG girl now. Good Luck and keep us posted. I posted pics of her on every thread about sexing SS on here! Lots of peeps thought she was a roo. Hasn't laid yet.. but hopefully soon. I will post a pic in a bit.

I remember that so that's why I'm not freaking out. Thanks... take a look... here are a few pics from this morning. 1 month old yesterday...

Any thoughts?

Complain some more... it's always worked for me!!! We won't mind :)

I never saw the breeders stock since she brought them into the feed store to sell. I'm glad you got to see their eggs first and you can say with all honesty they lay blue eggs. I have to assume she duped us when she said they were blue layers. Sad how many chicken people are dishonest out there. Although I probably would have bought them anyway but not paid $20 each. Maybe that's why they were $20 instead of $50? How much do you think you can get out there for a CCL?
I do have too many birds though so I will have to sell 3-5... if my CCL's continue to lay a dark green maybe I will sell my OE since I'm not sure if she will lay olive or not.

I'm wondering if my CCL is a mix of Ameraucana and Cuckoo Marans... she looks to have a light barring like the CM... anyone know if Meyer does that cross for OE??

I understand your disappointment and feeling like you've been tricked, but they are beautiful side by side and this way you know who is laying which egg. And $20 is a much better deal than $40 or $50. While some breeders may be able to control their egg color through serious selection and culling, I think that if you got a CCL from any hatchery you would run the risk of getting green eggs, even though they advertise blue.

My girl looked exactly like that at your age. I am going to try and find a photo. I am leaning towards pullet for you because of my experience, your birds body length is of the rectangular shape as mine was. The tail scares me a bit.. but she is still very young. My girls comb was actually larger at that age.. but then just stopped. Going to look for a picture by comaraison...

This picture is just a little bit older than your bird. See her next to her two hatchmates. Now I know they are different breeds... but her comb and wattles scared me to death!

I'm sure you could sell her quite easily if you don't want olive eggs (I think they're beautiful!) ,especially given that olive eggers cost more than EEs everywhere I've looked.

I'm so glad some of you are still hopeful on Olive! My first light brahma was the first to feather out, so I was doubtful. I will keep hoping! I think they are so pretty.

Best of luck on Olive being a girl!

I love the olive green it is so pretty. Maybe they switched off and your Olive Egger will lay a blue? That is very frustrating though. I hate it when people take advantage like.

Bonnie Blue who laid today...

She's a pretty lady

All your chicks looks great. I wish I had a separate grow out coop like you for transitioning younger chicks. My chickens are doing great too, Egg production is a little better and they're finding special spots in the run and seem pretty content.

We have one EE that lays a almost blue egg too. How old is your bantam EE?

Adorable. I see why you are worried. I would be too, but I have never had that breed, so no help here. She sure is cute though!

So pretty....I wonder if I have the SS on my "want" list already. If not, I'm adding it.

Agree with you on both counts.

Clara laid her second egg today. She still isn't feeling comfortable with the nest boxes and after fussing for quite a bit I brought her inside again since it was hot. After sitting on my lap for awhile she walked behind me and laid down between the corner of the hallway and my dress. I think nest box curtains might help her. I may just staple up some linen fabric on the top and sides. Also I will probably set a basket under the coop in the shade when its hot. Anywho the egg she laid today is a bit longer and more blue. She is very quiet when she lays, little bit a whimpering before hand but no egg song after, she just looked a bit shocked.

Comparison: Left- store egg, middle- today's egg, right- Tuesday's egg

They aren't quite this green, egg photos are tricky sometimes they look too pale, sometimes too dark, too green or too blue.

Our walls actually have a bit more yellow in them, likewise the egg isn't quite this blue. But I'm glad it reads as blue against green.
