Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

It's time for a three week update!!
These chicks are crazier than any other bunch.
Here's a few for a line up.
Olive (light brahma), Pumpkin (welsummer), Plum (lav orp)

Olive again. Really slow to feather in. I'm giving up hope on this being a pullet. Just waiting till the ten weeks mark to notify Meyer :(

Strawberry (speckled sussex) I really love the speckles.

Pumpkin (welsummer) I never thought I'd like brown chicks so much! She's trying to hide, but you can tell how pretty she's getting.

Cute cute cute! Love the line up! That's too funny. I love the speckles on Strawberry too and Wellies are so cute!

I think Clara may be taking a break today, I wouldn't blame her. Nor do I expect an egg from her everyday given her breed and how early it is. Her first egg wasn't too big but it wasn't tiny either. I should take a side by side with a store egg. The neighbors commented on it being small but of course they don't know anything about egg laying seeing as the wife had asked earlier if they would lay eggs without a rooster. Her husband said "That must be a $500 egg". Probably pretty close to the mark ;)

I had thought Amelia and some of the others had been squatting for me for awhile but I confused their crouching low for it, because today she was truly squatting, bit difference and kind of funny. Shouldn't be long for her, hoping everything goes well and she doesn't prolapse again.

Hey Everyone: I've gotten behind on posts too, finally caught up. We've had family in for the past 5 days, so busy, busy!

Great chicken and chick pics and new coop pics!

I need to gather up my egg counts and food counts and figure out how much eggs cost me too. I buy the layer crumbles from TSC.

We had 15 eggs yesterday which was a lot of eggs compared to how many we've been getting lately.

Sadly we lost Honey last night to a coon, she was apparently roosted up high when I brought everyone in from free range and didn't see her. I feels horrible, feathers all over the free range area and in some our buildings, but never found the carcass.

I'm so sorry, she was beautiful.

Don't give up on Olive. Brahmas feather in a lot slower than other breeds. Most of the large breeds do. Our cochins looked so silly next to everyone else. They were huge but still mostly chick feathers when everyone else was fully feathered. Males do sometimes feather in slower in certain breeds (another crazy genetic talk there about the slow feathering gene and which parent had to have it, etc), but it's not always a given. Watch for the comb to drastically change in the next week or so and then you'll know.

Don't give up on Olive! Both of our brahmas were super slow to feather. In fact our recent one is till getting her feathers in and she is 3 mos old. Them comb is no too bright so there is still hope.

X2 on that.
I had a Wyandotte that feathered incredibly slow and I thought may be a male but it wasn't. And I had 2 Buff Brahma... one feathered much slower and that ended up being the female; the faster to feather was a male. So you never know.
And on that note... I will add that I think my SS is a male... it's about 4 1/2 weeks old and no tail to speak of, very slow feathering and pretty big legs to go along with all that. So I guess we'll wait it out together!!

Forgive me if I glazed over them when trying to catch up but I'd love to see photos of your littlest ones, especially the suspect SS!

I'm so glad some of you are still hopeful on Olive! My first light brahma was the first to feather out, so I was doubtful. I will keep hoping! I think they are so pretty.

I'm going to take pics really soon. I just got finished moving my 4 1/2 month olds into the big coop... boy were they upset about that!! And getting the little coop cleaned out and moving the little ones out there hopefully tomorrow. I NEED them out of the garage desperately. LOL.... box to small and they are pooping everywhere!! They are a mix of 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 week olds. My OE has a single comb so I don't hold out to much hope for an olive egg.

OH... I forgot to mention .... my other CCL laid her first egg today!!! It's olive green... so either the breeder 'tricked' me when she said they laid sky blue eggs or she didn't know either?? I'm thinking the first. But, the eggs are beautiful and the girls are just so pretty in person. The pics don't do them justice.

Here are my 2 CCL eggs. The one on the left is my newer layer... they are very small (NOT Meyer Girls...)

And a few pics of them today...

Bonnie Blue who laid today...

group shot...

Leyla... her comb just popped out overnight and turning red!!
