Beautiful! Congrats on the blue egg! So your Delawares laid both the lightest and darkest eggs? Interesting. Perhaps one's inkjets are on high and the other's haven't geared up, hehe.

I gave half a dozen eggs to our neighbors this afternoon, three each from Amelia and Clara. Took from Saturday till today to get them all, since Clara took a day off, plus one extra from Amelia today for us or to start on the other neighbor's half dozen. Amelia's last 4 eggs have been more rosy terracotta then her first lavender and pink creations, ah well. Our neighbor asked if I was sure we didn't want money for them, as I had said in the spring neighbors get them free, but she knows organic feed isn't cheap and neither was the coop, her husband was the one who commented that our first egg was a "$500 egg". My mom has been encouraging me to sell, my husband keeps saying we won't have enough. So I told her maybe when everyone starts laying and we actually have enough to supply you with a dozen at a time, but consider these first ones a gift. She was good with that. Her daughter, who I went to school with oddly enough, gets fresh eggs from a girl at work who only charges $2, my neighbor even realized that was too low. But I figured if nothing else I can tell them I'll take donations whenever and for whatever amount, it doesn't have to be with every delivery. I think when everyone starts laying we should be getting a dozen every 3 days, but we'll see. And if there is enough demand with money coming in we can either get a few chicks early in the spring or started pullets in May.

Ok friends, help me out here. I could be just paranoid because the Delaware turned out to be a roo but I think I am seeing signs of maleness in a few others.. What do you think?
columbian wyandotte (not the blue is bluekote, this one got bullied a bit. she has a tendency to want to hide under others when they want nothing to do with her.)
