Beautiful girls!  I love the looks of RIR and Delawares.  How are their personalities?

Well one RIR is pretty shy, but seems to get along with others well. The other one is a bit more aggressive, but she gets put in her place by the Barred Rocks or Delaware's. She tends to chase some of the EE and Left Eye off the food. Not sure what kind of layers they are, with 23 I haven't spent hours on end trying to see who is laying what. The Delawares are noisy, talkative and friendly. the RIR are both a little skitterish as far as being caught and held. The Delawares don't mind being held. Hope that helps.

Also here is a shot of one of our Welsummer's and a Dark Cornish....just trying to give people ideas of what else Meyer has. We are happy with all our girls from Meyer, lots of people say mixed flocks don't work, I disagree. Minus Left Eye getting pecked in her eye, we haven't had any issues. That being said they were all raised from day one together and get along just fine.

Happy shopping :D

Everything I've read said the molt takes about three weeks and they will start laying about at that time. HOWEVER...my Dellie never really stopped laying, just slowed a little. My RIR started to lay again right about at that three week mark. My brahma is at about six weeks and counting, although she has been going into the nest boxes, so hopefully soon!
I think mine are going for a record and are waiting until they reach the 3 month mark.

Love the pictures and stories that go along with them. You really should write a chicken children's book, so adorable! I am also so jealous of all those eggs and varying shades!!! Your chickens are beautiful!!

I love her look. she looks huge in this picture too. Glad she is getting better too!

LOL... the answer is probably 3 days to 3 months! My RIR had a light molt and laid a few eggs a few weeks after she stopped dropping feathers but now I'm rarely getting an egg. My 2 BA really didn't molt that I noticed but only getting 1 maybe 2 eggs/week from them. My 2 EE's have a light molt going on right now but I'm getting 2-3 eggs from them a week. Tough feeding all those mouths and no eggs. Do you know how many lbs of fee you are going through a week?

Yup...3 months it is, I guess...My RIR has done the same and my GB has lost a few, but only skips a day here and there still. She is really the only reliable one lately. My 2 wyandottes have done pretty well too both the CW and the GLW. Now those white egg layers, I just don't get why they are not starting back yet. Of course the two Light Brown Leghorns did go through a pretty hard molt, so maybe that is why. The 2 andulasions seem fine and fully feathered now. My Buff Polish was looking at the nest boxes today, so maybe she'll lay an egg? That's a good question on how many pounds of food. Guess I buy 2 -50 lb bags a month. I don't think they are eating anymore then before, but I have been trying to add more food scraps, BOSS, scratch and green stuff too.

Let's see 100 lbs a month divided by 4 weeks = 25 lbs a week? Not sure if that is actually the case though, I am not filling up the feeder that often, I don't think. So that is about a pound a week per chicken. I used to have it all figured out, but have lost track of everything. I hope to eventually get all my records up to date soon.

How much feed do you feed per week? Does a pound per chicken seem like the right amount?

I believe trst has a polish, not sure if she got from Meyer or not. Beardie is a cutie, love her coloring.
lol, that made me chuckle, but those re some pretty eggs, I hve to admit. I love the dark one.

Someone else said they had coop drama during egg laying time, well we have the drama with 23 girls, 9 nest boxes and the majority of the eggs are laid in two nest boxes. The drama seems to never end in the am, when most of ours due their deed. The worst two about their privacy are both EE, the petite Gretchen and Isis. When they are in a nest box if nyone so much as pokes their head in the coop, they hiss and squawk to no end. Gretchen, I am hoping will be good setter down the road. She and one of our cornish love sitting on clutches of eggs. Often not their own as I have found Gretchen sitting on 6 eggs, all of which were brown, a little suspect given she is an EE and lays pretty blue/green eggs. I sweep through the coop and nest box area about every hour in the am, to collect eggs and to remove those wanna be broodies off the nest box. Some of ours are molting more hard now, poor Little One seems to be loosing her muff and Gretchen her tail feathers. Still getting 18+ eggs a day so can't complain.
I have a Buff Laced Polish and used to have a Golden Laced one. The Golden Laced was killed in the dog attack, we also had another Golden Laced that died from stress during shipping with a few others. the ones we had did not seem anymore prone to attacks then the other hens, but I could always see their eyes, so I guess they could see well. If the feathers cover the eyes, I imagine that would be a problem.

Here is a pic of our Golden Laced one, Elvis. She never had a chance to lay an egg. She was turning out really pretty though.

and here is Buffy, our Buff Laced Polish. She is a very sweet hen and squats for us. She lays a medium to large egg when she is not molting.

I love the Polish hens and plan to get one of every variety one day. They are just so much fun to watch!

All of my birds are from Meyer's

Beautiful girls! I have this ones twin here too.

That does help, yes :) We have two skittish girls: Amelia, our Golden Buff and Clara our EE. They don't care for being picked up but Amelia will jump up on my lap if she thinks I have treats, or cereal or any food or drink. She's a little beggar. But they are both sweet and submissive. I like the idea of a RIR for both daily eggs for the neighbor and feather color, I really want a solid red hen. But the husband wants friendly chickens hence his vote for Speckled Sussex. He also suggested Brahma, but it's my understanding they are not as good layers. Definitely getting a Welsummer!

I know our pullets are just getting started with the laying but I am very impressed with our Buff Orpington and Black Copper Marans production. They each only skip one day a week, get to work early in the morning and lay beautiful pink and dark brown almost purplish eggs respectively. Our Golden Buff lays everyday, usually early but these last two days she's been waiting for the afternoon. Our EE lays progressively later each day and usually skips two days a week because of it, but you can't beat blue-green eggs! And our Dorking just laid her second egg today, all of our girls skipped the day after their first egg though :)

Thank you! Buffy is fabulous! I love anything buff laced! Polish are probably a bit down the road for us, but I would like Buff Laced and White Crested Blue.

Has anyone gotten any Blue Andalusian or Silver Spangled Hambergs from Meyer? I am looking at getting a few more in the spring.

I have a Blue Andulasion- She is an odd chicken and the others pick on her.

I also have a Blue Splash and she happens to be one of the leaders. So two of the same breed with completely different personalities. They both are high flyers and fence escapees though.

LynnEBC has two gorgeous Andalusians, I quoted her post above :)

I was watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix, when it froze and turned itself off and defaulted back to PBS and what was on but P. Allen Smith with a flock of Silver Laced Wyandottes. Sign? Lol.

Absolutely a sign that you are supposed to get some Silver Laced Wyandottes. I have 5 and they are plump little girls that lay eggs as if it was their religion. They are sweet and chatter at me constantly when I am around. In fact I think your posting is a sign for me to get more myself. OMG...here we go again.

I know these are not chickens but I am so excited! My first baby bunnies! 2 of my New Zealand Does kindled on last Monday night! These are their 1 week birthday pics! LOL
