Here are the chicks I got today! Blue Laced Red Wyandotte: Olive Egger: Rhode Island Red: And here's what my brooder looks like now: I was all set to give the new chicks names from the Waltons, like Erin and Elizabeth. And Olivia for the olive egger. But once I got them home, those names didn't seem to fit. So I'll wait to see what comes to mind. Autumnhearth, your hens are really beautiful! ( And I love fluffy chicken butt photos too.)
All the cute! Your BLRW looks nice and dark on the head like a GLW, so she will hopefully be the coloring you want. I'm partial to the splash ;) I didn't know that RIR chicks had/could have the stripes down the back and on the head. She's very pretty. Nice setup! How old are the bigger chicks? They didn't object to the three little fluff balls being added? Let us know what you decide to name them. I'm open to suggestions for my sons White Rock, he's undecided. He picked her out to be a "snow chicken" so I've been looking at names that have winter and white connotations. It's funny, when I look at my Wellie Cornelia, I sometimes picture her as a Mabel or Pumpkin and see why/how you guys chose those names :)

I love the Welsummer on here named Nutmeg. My own Welsummer's name is Wendolene.

I am sorely tempted to get a second one.

Aww glad to hear that, I can totally picture baby chicks snuggling up with young turkeys and I've heard around 2 weeks difference is fine. I get the color class thing and feel that way about the BLRW splash "model" in the catalog but then I've seen ones that's lacing looks more of a warm white and those remind me of buff lacing which I adore. I think I've only come across a few photos of the black so I'd love to see how yours turns out. I love Nutmeg too, one day I want to name a batch of chicks spice names. A RIR named Cinnamon, a Golden Buff named Ginger, a Welsummer or EE named Nutmeg, and a black breed named Clove etc.

I'm saving the baby photos and when they grow up, I'm planning to post side by side before and after photos. It was what I was scanning through tons and tons of photos to look for, so I think it will be helpful if I add mine.

Keep the baby pictures coming - cute chicks @autumnhearth & Finnie.

I can't remember who asked for RIR adult pics, here are our two, one is a darker red than the other.
