Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Still waiting.
Tracking info says they are still in Ohio but most likely that's because they haven't scanned the package for a while.
I will be at the PO later today shipping some boxes so maybe they can give me a little info, but doubtful.

On a good note, we are getting lots of rain this morning and the run looks like it is draining well. No puddles And the roof isn't on yet so that will make it even better!

Farmguy has had chickens before, but I'm just a city girl who's excited to check this out! I love animals and think this will be a rewarding experience. What are the things you like most about owning chickens?
When I was little I helped feed chickens and get eggs, but this is my first time having my own. So far the fun part is watching them grow and trying to figure out what breed or if any are roosters. Also, chickens are so funny to just watch. We all like to hand feed them, although now their little pecks are starting to hurt. We have a few that still are scared of us and then we have some that hop on us when we are out with them and enjoy being petted. So many different personalities.

I have always loved animals too, I am sure you will enjoy having yours.

Thought y'all might like to see how my Meyer girls are doing. They're 9 months old today.

(Don't mind the muddy feet and wet feathers. We had a pretty miserable day here.)

Speckled Sussex:

Partridge Plymouth Rocks:

And Frou-Frou the ever-comical blue splash Marans:

She always nests in the sand in one corner of the coop for some reason. She was 'protecting' her egg from the other hens today. It was so sweet.

Beautiful chickens! I'm going to add those breeds to my future list of the chickens I want later.

Notable Nancy - So far the sand in my coop is working out well. I heard that misting the sand now and then helps with the dust. I added more sand to the coop yesterday and the sand I added was moist and they all decided that moist sand was the best to take their dust baths in. They are so cute dust bathing!

I have straw to use once the nest boxes are opened up, right now the two bales are in the coop and they enjoy hopping on them and pulling out a little straw here and there.

Not much longer.....they'll be there soon....anticipation!!!!

thanks for the sand info.

How long did it take your chicks to arrive from Meyer??
No news yet so my PO says tomorrow

I hope you're right. I just keep thinking that my little girls are so close I could go get them but I don't know where they are

Here's what I ordered...

Barred Rock 1
Easter Egger 4
Columbian Wyandotte 1
White Cochin 1
Rhode Island Red 2
Buff Brahma 2
Black Australorp 2
Cuckoo Marans 1
Partridge Rock 1

We already have a few named due to my mom and MIL claiming some for their own. First they laughed at me for getting them but now they want them too. Not to take care of them at their house just to have them be theirs at my house!
So we have the Buff Brahma named Stella and Carmella and the Australorp are Chugg and Mamie (all named after favorite aunts and grandparents) and my son is claiming the white cochin and it's named Mo. I don't know why but it's Mo. And my other son is in college and when he comes home next weekend he will pick one out to name. I hope I don't lose a lot or I won't have many left to name!!

thanks for the sand info.

I received mine on a Wednesday, I believe Farmguy2007 is right, you'll get them in the early morning. When does the PO get there packages? They received mine at 7:14 am and I received the phone call about 10 minutes after and picked them up at 7:30 am.

Of course, I did not see the PO updates online until after I picked them up, so the phone call was what I went by.

You have a nice selection of chicks coming. Beware the Barred Rocks and the Black Australorps look a lot alike as chicks and those EE's can easily be confused with other breeds too. It has been fun trying to figure out which is which.

Sleep well tonight and keep your phone nearby, you're most likely going to have a busy day tomorrow!

Oh and my family have been the same way, we ended up with more names then we had chickens! My niece and nephew joined in the naming and future DIL, plus my kids who are in college or graduated and married. Of course, my husband named a few too. I plan on naming the ones we get in early May.

Everyone is so excited with the chickens. Hopefully they will stay excited and help with all the chicken chores in the future.
