Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I sadly couldn't get the EcoGlow... By the time we had the money to order it, it was too late. It never would have gotten here on time. Instead we got a red bulb for our heat lamp. At least it will be a bit darker at night for them. I turned it on the other night at about 10:30pm, and it only lit up the corner of the garage that it was in. A regular light would have lit up half the garage.

I'm really bummed about not being able to get the EcoGlow. Maybe I'll be able to get it next year.

6 days!

Meyer's Hatchery has awesome customer service, just have to say. I will be getting 3 RIR's next week to add to my current 6, so I will be back up to 9 chicks. I wanted more of a variety, but that is all I can get at this point that hatch within a week. I don't have a setup to have 3 separate places for chicks. These should be able to mix in with my current ones. I may need to separate them some in the brooder, not sure yet. Guess we'll see the difference in sizes next week.

Here we go again.....

One of these days, in a year or two...I am getting a Golden Laced Wyandotte, I have tried twice so far, guess it just wasn't meant to be.
I love my RIR's! They are so pretty. Most of my RIR's are 5 years old and some of them still lay 5 eggs per week. They are amazing birds and they lay such pretty brown eggs!

These are my two Easter Eggers from Meyer Hatchery. Fiona and Eggna.

Sadly we lost Princess Buttercup to a raccoon last night. :(

These are the rest of my hens from Meyer Hatchery. My 3 RIRs Henrietta, Delpine, and Princess Buttercup; my 2 Black Australorps Lucy and Lola; and my 2 EEs Fiona and Eggna. Love 'em all. They're fabulous birds. Really like Meyer Hatchery. They will definitely be getting more business from me. :)

Every time I get on this thread I have super amounts of catching up to do, because I can't get on it very often or it makes me want to run right out and get more chicks (or change my order) because I still have so long before mine ship. Originally (back in Feb) I had ordered six hens and a rooster, that all changed a couple weeks ago. For the past year we have been raising, housing, and caring for a friends flock of three birds (we called them our foster hens) but they just moved them to a new house in the country taking the 10 down to just our seven, and opening up vacancies in the flock. So, I canceled our original order after many talks and a few days of deliberations and compleatly changed and re ordered. Now my new babies won't arrive till OCTOBER! However they arrive the week of my birthday - so how awesome is that! This order now has:

Silver Laced Wyandotte 1
Rhode Island Red 1
Partridge Rock 1
Golden Laced Wyandotte 1
Exchequer Leghorn 1
White Leghorn 2
Easter Egger 2
Golden Cuckoo Marans 2
Welsummer 2
Meyer Meal Maker 1

all females. Hubby and I agreed that 20 would be our max capacity so I had 13, but who turns down a free chicken??! So I had to add the Meal Maker in there taking the order to 14 little ladies and a total flock of 21.

HOWEVER - those three foster hens that we were raising for a friend - now they bleong to the friends parents, who wanted a larger flock but didn't want to raise the babies (too much hassle??) and asked if I would do that. SURE I love babies! So, our feed store had sex links and Ancona which I'm almost sure were from Meyer, and they asked me to raise them 5 of each breed. Well, while I was there I couldn't help it and picked out an Ancona for myself as well LOL SIlly chicken math, max of 20, ok 21, ok 22 lol What can I say I have a thing about wanting my flock to have an even number of birds LOL You can see picks of these cuties (which are around 4 weeks now!) over on my facebook group page (you don't need a FB account to be able to look at them!) I'm in love with this little group of birds and I have my eyes on the Anconas trying to decide which of the 6 is going to stay here with me and my other girls.

It was worth the money for sure to have one. You should order one once they're back in stock for your next batch of chicks. If you are planning on getting more in the future.

I have 2 RIR's already in my first batch that are almost 12 weeks now. I'm going to have 5 total RIR's once these come. In a few months I am going to have way too many eggs I'm sure. They are pretty and very mild mannered. I didn't realize that they live such long lives. Good to know.

Wow, October? That's a long wait! At least you have these cute ones to keep you busy in the meantime! I planned on 12 originally, then we realized the coop and city rules allowed us up to 20, problem is I will have 23 by next week. Oops, that chicken math gets me into trouble. My brother is talking about getting chickens, he may end up with a few of mine.

Oh and nice selection for your new ones!

That date in October was the ONLY date for the rest of the year that had all the birds I wanted available. I figure if I'm going ot be done adding to our flock for at least a couple of years I can wait a couple extra months to get exactly what I want. Right?? Yikes still 5 months to go and I'm already antsy. Thank God for the 11 in the garage right now!

Also, with any luck our new Ancona should begin laying some pretty white eggs in the nest boxes around the time the batch of fluffy little babies arrives at the PO.

I actually resisted "chicken math." I decided that I did not really need to get 3 more RIR's. I already have 2, and I like having a variety so...I called and canceled my order with Meyers for next week. My husband and I started thinking that it would be best to wait until these and my other chicks are all grown and then decide if we need more later. My coop is really just set up for 20 according to the maximum requirements of square foot per bird, etc., if I went by the minimum requirements, I could add more.

Rather then end up with 23 grown chickens in a few months, I will have 19 grown chickens, if they all do well of course. That is still a lot of chickens and a lot of eggs! Plus I still have a large variety of breeds which is what I wanted to start with.

These 6 little guys are still doing so well, they are so much fun to watch, silly chicks!

My 12 week old chicks are getting so big, they look so much bigger now that we have chicks. Funny thing about them is that they won't eat worms anymore. I just don't understand why not?

Thats what I have done, is add a few here and there in the past and ended up with a large variety, the order I'm getting in the fall is my biggest ever, and while I'm super excited about all of them it makes me sad to realize thats it, there won't be any more. Stick with what you've got, reevaluate next spring, and maybe then put in another order for just a few including your GLW. Reading about your issues with your GLW makes me shudder a little, I'm hoping I don't have similar issues since I also have one on my order.

Oh, plus if your brother still is interested, maybe he can take a couple of your chicks and free up some openings in the maximum capacity.
