Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Lol I tried doing the same thing a couple weeks but with leaving them outside at night and they want no part of it! My hubby heard them crying and asked if I was killing them so I figured they can stay inside till aug but I told them the first week of aug they are outside! I really wanted some time between the 3 batches of chicks without having the brooder/play pen taking up half of my back room but it isn't looking too good. Oh we'll I'm sure once everyone is outside I'm gonna miss having someone in the house..

Mine did okay eventually with no light outside, they complained for the first couple of nights, but eventually they were okay after a couple of nights of good sleep without a light. If you gradually take it away like you said that would be best. It helps to have them confined in the coop to a small area too, so they can huddle together and not get lost in the dark.

I had it a lot easier with my 2nd set of chicks since I used a Brinsea, so no problem with the light with them. If you brood chicks a lot, I'd recommend getting one too.

My babies are already all set to move into the coop when they're older thanks to the EcoGlow. They're used to darkness at night, and much more tolerant of being away from the heat already! Love my EcoGlow!

Bianca the WR. She has reddish skin and the sun is making her comb look redder than it really is. She is pretty big, but I don't know if that means anything.... Really hope she's nother a he!

I have a question for everyone. My girls just turning 6 weeks old today, and we plan on moving them into their big girl coop on Tuesday. I was looking at the weather for this week and the temperatures will only be 50-59 degrees at night, and they won't be able to have their heat lamp out their because my barn doesn't have electricity. Is 50 degrees still too cold for them?

Oh and how do chicks do that first night without their "nightlight". I'm guessing fine, but I kind of think they would be just like any human child who goes to sleep for the first time without a nightlight. Scared at first. My chicks have never slept a night without their heat lamp on, so I'm kind of curious as to what they will think when they go to bed and it's not on.

I'm also happy to say that I am pretty sure Amber and Sunni are pullets after all!

I moved my 6 week olds into the coop in April with pretty cool nights (40's-50's) and was a nervous wreck. I have the ecoglow and noticed they were barely using it in my garage but I moved it into the coop just in case they needed it. NONE went under it! Even my pipsqueak that was barely feathered never went under it.
I think if you start weaning it off them in the house or just turn it off completely in the house (or where ever they are right now) and then put them out in a few days they will be just fine. They just snuggle together if they are a little cold.
As far as light goes, I use the ecoglow so I didn't have any problem with them going to sleep in the dark. They were used to it from day 1 and that was one of the reasons I bought it. I loved it!!
But maybe you can gradually reduce that too. Turn off your heat lamp and just put a night light in the room so they can still see a little and then after 3 days of that maybe they will be ok.

Hopefulpeeps- VERY cute!! Sorry I can't help with sexing. I know very little but nothing is screaming 'cockerel' to me.

They are still inside at 10 weeks old but I feel they are still too small to be out there for good and when they were left outside at night(I ran late to come get them a few times) they cry till I come get them. But come the first week of aug they are gonna have to go outside cause I don't have the room for 2 brooders and their play pen.

Oh my goodness, my family room where the 3 week olds were was getting so dusty I couldn't take it anymore and moved them to the garage!! But I had 14 in there; how many do you have? I can't imagine 10 week olds in the house. Is that because you have big girls outside and can't mix them together yet?

When you get a chance I'd love to see more pictures of your BA's. My little one Yahoo is growing fast. I'd love to see what she will look like soon. Of course, any other chick pictures are good too.

I always like to take/post new pics soooo since you asked I'll get out there soon and get some!! The BA's shine so pretty in the sun- green iridescent feathers!!
One of them, Mamie, is the boss and even chases the rooster around but she doesn't seem overly aggressive to anyone just doing keeping her place in the pecking order kind of thing as far as I can tell.

I met the caretaker of an estate for sale about a mile from my house and I know they have chickens so I asked if he wanted a rooster... sadly the answer is no but he said their employees will take him. I'm sure it's to eat him but at this point I don't know what else to do.
I so wish he could live at this estate... take a look if you have time.
Their 'chicken coop' (in quotations because it is more like a chicken estate) was in the paper recently. It is fabulous...

Wow, those chickens live in luxury! What a house house, I mean mansion! Those poor people who live there having to suffer in such a large beautiful home like that, feel so sorry for them!

NotableNancy I just have 4 silkies, if I had 14 I promise you they would be outside already lol. When my 8 chicks arrive they have till 6 weeks and they are out! My amazon parrot and cockatiel live in the back room so I'm use to the dust back there but there is def more dust with the silkies. They are our only chickens so I don't have to worry about them being picked on but they just seem too small to leave outside for good. Plus it's been pretty hot here and they start panting as soon as they go out. I've been looking into getting a Eco glow cause if I have the brooder light on it gets too hot for the parrot and tiel and I have have to take them out of there during the day.
