Thanks for all the help!! Anyone know anything about blue Andalusians or Sicilian buttercups? The feed store has blue Andalusians and I think I've fallen in love

They do make cute chicks, both kinds. I think I'd like some of those buttercups.

I know!!! My feed store had the Blue Andalusians too and I wanted some but I can't fit anymore
They're both on my list for next time!!
And silkies, and BO's and one like Frou-Frou (splash something, I can't remember!)
and many more!!

Lynn- we're getting lots of storms today so no new pics yet, maybe tomorrow.

I just fed my girls leftover MahiMahi and they went nuts over it!!! Super protein for them since they don't free range!
I'll have to try tuna next time. I saved a recipe that I found on BYC for a 'loaf' to make for the chickens with tuna, BOSS, eggs, cheese and more.
That will be nice for the cold months.

I was eager to add an Andalusian to my order this year, and then I saw a show quality one and figured I would be disappointed by a hatchery quality one. Those show quality blue Andalusians are amazing! It's my understanding that they are quite flighty, though, either way.

So my hubby wants to place another order for 6 more chicks! I tried adding a marans today and they are out for my ship date. If we do end up getting the 3rd order I'm gonna try again. I blame the whole me wanting marans on frou-frou, once I saw her pic I fell in love. Then Pipd was talking about how amazing she is and it was all over. I've heard the Andalusia is flighty but if handled everyday and raised around calmer birds I heard they can become calm

A friend of mine tried blue andalusians this year and said she'll never do them again. They were flighty and actually killed one of her other chicks.

We picked up 4 silkies from a local breeder (much better stock than hatchery). Got them home and realized we got varying shades of grey from white to black. Hard to tell in the pic but the one in the back left is a real light grey. So we'll wait a couple days to make sure they all make it and then cancel our meyer silkie order. We'll still be getting our 5 assorted rares though so I'm excited to see what we get.

Unfortunately the little white one in front didn't survive.
Don't know what happened, she was fine then she wasn't. I hate that. I'm going to try to pick up a replacement on monday. The breeder lives 1 1/2 hours from me but I might have to go her way for work so it might all work out. I've had so many chicks die this year that I'm almost ready to give up. I just can't figure out why a select few die with no more than a few hours of getting tired beforehand.

More chicken math at work: I was talking with a friend yesterday and we decided to split an order of 25 meat birds from Meyer. They arrive at the end of next week. We're going to have to keep them at a friend's farm since I'm only allowed 8 chickens (we currently have 20 onsite) and she is allowed 0 chickens (and has 6 onsite). lol!
I was surprised my husband was ok with it. All I had to do was say he could practice processing a few of them (he's been wanting to learn).

I'm sorry you lost one of your Silkies. Try not to get to frustrated; sometimes they are just sick and we lose a few. I hope you are able to get another one from the breeder.
