Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Love this thread! It's been one of my top reads since I ordered my chicks from Meyer's months ago.

Now, after waiting months, my chicks are finally going to be shipped tomorrow! I've got my brooder ready with my Brinsea EcoGlow. I can't help but have the new-mom jitters! But mostly, I'm just nervous about their voyage to me and how many of them will make it. I am guessing that I should go to my local post office tomorrow and tell them that I'm expecting a live-animal shipment, and ask them if they can call me when they arrive. Does anyone know if there's any special protocol with post offices regarding live animal shipments? What should I expect?? I'm sorry if this has been covered. In fact I know it has been. I'm just so nervous!
I have some shipping out tomorrow as well. I just went in and let my post office know a week or so ago I would be expecting live chicks and they said they would call me as soon as they got in.

Yeah, I thought about going in last week, but I worried that they might forget after a week went by. LOL So I though going in the day before would keep things fresh and help them stay sharp for the chicks delivery.

As if they could miss a peeping box.

Yup, I would just go in tomorrow and let them know they're coming Tues or Wed. Maybe put your name and any phone numbers on a piece of paper so they can call you. I'm pretty sure it's on the box but it never hurts to show how excited you are and maybe they will be extra helpful.
Are these your first chicks ever? What and how many are you getting. I know how excited you must me. I couldn't wait til they got here and I'm still excited every day to go out there and visit with them!!!
GOOD luck

Sorry everyone... I missed responding to a few posts but it sounds like everyone had good news this weekend... eggs, letting chickens out in this horrendous hot weather, fly eating and more :)

I didn't get a pic yet of my CM but hopefully tomorrow. My dh made an enclosure like yours MsChickenMama for an area that has weeds and leaves to scratch in (we have no grass on our entire 1 acre). I put Jr. (my Marans) and Stella the BB in it for an hour or so and I guess they liked it. I think they may have been nervous since it was a new thing. Maybe next time I'll put at least 4 in there but it was my first time doing it and there's no easy access to get into it to catch them to put them back into the run. It's only about 3 ft. high, and maybe 7' X 4' so I was sorta crouched in there trying to grab them.

I'm going to get some pics of my RIR's too because their combs/wattles really grew! They were checking out the nest boxes all day today, more than they ever have. And boy were they chatty. Just looking at me and bawwwwking away. I reached down to pat Izzy (EE) a few times and she did sort of a squat then a run away from me. We'll see. Nothing I can do but keep checking those nesting boxes! It's going to hit close to 100 later this week so I'm not sure if that affects them.

Thanks, Nancy!!!

When I was ten, I started working for a local farmer, helping in his feed shop and cleaning out chicken and rabbit hutches. Of course, it wasn't long before I took home some chicks of my own, and other assorted livestock! LOL When I turned 18, I had to find homes for all my chickens and other farm pets. It was SO hard saying goodbye to them, especially my horses and my silkie roo. That roo was my little buddy. But, life goes on.

Now, 25 years later, I have a family of my own and 5 acres in a rural neighborhood. So I'm thinking it's time for chickens again.

My husband is much more enthusiastic about getting chickens than horses, so I figure one step at a time! LOL I ordered a nice mixed flock of egg-layer breeds to start us off with. I know my husband will appreciate the eggs. And I'm hoping my 11 year old son and 6 year old daughter will take to them as well. My order is for 1x Barred Rock, 1x Rhode Island Red, 1x Brown Leghorn, 1x Buff Orpington, 1x Black Australorp, 2x Easter Egger, and a mystery Meyer's Meal Maker. So 8 in all. For now. We will see how it goes.

I'm glad that I have some experience ans knowledge of the work involved, even if it was 25 years ago. But this is the first time I ever got chicks in the mail before. It's really freaking me out a bit. I hate the idea that they'll be in that box being jostled around in the dark in who knows what kind of temperatures. Poor little gals. So very worried about them.

I just can't wait until they are here and I can get them someplace comfortable. And I know I'm going to get all maternal when I hear their little peeps and know they're mine!

That's a great assortment! Did you get the email from Meyer yet?

Not sure if anyone is interested but I just went on the website and they have so many great breeds available for this week... ahhhh, if only I could

Can't wait to see photos. I LOVE my EcoGlow - so easy to set up - not worries about heat lamp issues!
