Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Well I've given her a drink twice today and a little bit of yogurt. No leakage. I think the thing we were missing was wrapping it so she can't "clean" it.

How is she tonight?

I did return the feed, 100 lbs, and got one new bag of the same brand but in pellets and a bag of the flock raiser. They are eating both!! I really think the feed was a bit off. I kept the other 50lb bag because it was shoved in a corner and I couldn't get it out but I may try a bit in a few weeks and see what happens. They will take it back opened or unopened so thats not a problem.

Ugh, nothing worse than water in the basement. Things always happen in multiples. I hope nothing else goes on you.
After my disastrous December with all the broken appliances, our water heater sprung a little leak but luckily it had 2 months left on the warranty. Still cost $700 for labor and some parts!
Then when they were down there they brushed against a piece of wood on the wall which proceeded to crumble into pieces and we saw termites

Couple days later we saw there was still some kind of very slow leak in the furnace. In order to fix one stinking corroded pipe, they would have to move the newly installed water heater and take apart the 35 yr. old furnace, put the heater back together and put the water heater back. WAY over $1000 and there's no saying the pipe could be fixed properly. Sooooo, now we are pricing out new heating systems. Luckily we have been saving for this for 2 years because we knew it would be coming eventually but boy

Even with all that, I hate a wet basement even more!


Well, my feed store is totally going to ban me soon... I changed my order to the end of March because hopefully I can get a Silkie or 2 around then. They have about 15 different breeds
coming in but on hold I have 2 Salmon Faverolle, 2 EE's and 2 California Grays/Production Black (they look like a BR but smaller and lay a white egg) If the breeder has the true Ameraucana I will get them and skip the EEs and if she has the Silkies I may just have to sneak them in. shhhhh,

Oh, and if the breeder has the Leghorn I'll just get one Prod. Black and 1 Leghorn. hehehe

Well, we figured out the problem with the washer, it was the drainage hose, it was pushed too tight into the drain so there was no air to help it flow correctly. I also learned how to clean the filter in the pump and all sorts of things about my HE washer that I never knew. The power of Youtube! Saved us a ton of money. We still had to pull up all the basement carpet and wet vac it all up, but I hated that carpet anyway. So far there was no cost in that repair except for all the hard work and worry.

Our frig part came in today, we discovered what was wrong with it using Google and ordered the part. I was so happy it came in today. The weather will be warmer starting today, so the garage was not going to work as a frig anymore. My frig is cleaned from top to bottom and inside and out now, it looks brand new. That cost us around $40 and of course all the cleaning and worry along with it, but we saved money! We still need to now buy new carpet for the basement and I plan on getting a lot of large throw type carpets that are not too expensive so it will be an easy fix. Sorry to go on and on about this. I am so happy it is over and I have a frig and washer. After everything the past few days our cable and internet went out to. Thank goodness they fixed it within a few hours. I was frustrated last night and that did not help. Today everything looks so much better!

I would be the same and change my order all the time, there are just so many choices and types of chickens, how can you decide?

Update on Mona: After the stitching she was still leaking. DH couldn't tell if it was the same hole or a new one. He couldn't see his old stitches at all. I got home this morning and helped him. We filled it with a think liquid nails style glue and it wouldn't hold, air bubbles kept coming out. So we stitched it closed again. We let her sit all day with no food/water. Then I gave her a little water around 7. It didn't seem to be leaking. When we got home from dinner we gave her one more sip of water and about a quarter size amount of scrambled egg. She was starving! Then I went and checked on her and the stuff was coming out again and the stitches were gone. I brought her back into the bathroom to clean it out and as I went to set her down she struggled and caught her claw in the hole, her nail made another hole, then she ripped it out making a huge hole! We let her drink a lot of water to flush all the food out. Then I wrapped her in a towel and flipped her on her back and held her while DH sewed her up again. After sewing her we covered it in super glue and then glued the little piece of skin that's left and the feathers down. Then I took some wrap and wrapped her all up so she can't get her claw or beak in there and rip the stitches out again. Hopefully she's sleeping tonight without picking at it so it can have a chance to seal. It's so hard because she's active and hungry. It's like she has no idea she is hurt. We've talked about putting her down but it's too hard when she doesn't seem sick or badly hurt. We're going to try one more day but if it doesn't hold tomorrow we won't have a choice since she'll be starving to death and that's just not fair to her.
I don't think we'll give her any food tomorrow. Just vitamin water a little at a time. I don't want to stress out the crop or stitches.


Boy all these things going wrong don't sound fun! Our only problem is the roof leaking on our other house. (knock on wood).


On another note, we got our batch of eggs. I'll try to upload a pic shortly. She sent 6 extras. She wrote on the box, hold at PO call ### and my phone number. Of course the PO didn't call when I was home at 10 and could've picked it up. Instead they dropped it off on my porch (sideways even though it had a "this side up" on it) in the rain and snow! I didn't get it until 7pm tonight. I unwrapped them all and are letting them come to room temp before putting them in the incubator. I'm not going to start turning them until saturday so the air cells can have a chance to reset.

Oh wow! I would not want to go through that, that sounds terrible! Poor chicken! and poor you and your husband! That sounds so stressful and kind of nasty too. If I had to do it though, I would.

Our PO is not too bad here. I guess it depends on where you live too and if the mail people actually follow the directions on the package. I hope that the eggs are okay.

Do you all remember how I said a month or so back that my EE, Amber, laid a darkish brown egg with grayish brown spots? It turns out that wasn't her. It was one of my mix breed hens (not from Meyer). Amber actually has never laid an egg. She just started squatting for me on Wednesday, and the space between her pelvic bones is just starting to widen. She'll be 9 months old next week and she still hasn't laid an egg!

Well, here's to hoping she'll lay a green egg. The chances are unlikely since she seems to be a mix of some sort, but I can always hope! lol

Hi I just drove to Meyers hatchery on Monday (4) days ago and got to Barred Rock roosters. I took pics so here the little guys are.

Amazing! I cannot imagine trying to stitch up a chicken. Let alone over and over. Great job. Hope it holds and she heals up quickly.

adorable! Here are some pictures of my chickens experiencing their first snow. My daughter made me a little snow man at the coop door to surprise me.


They finally tried to come out, but were scared to step on that white stuff!


I had to make a path in the garden for them to walk in. Funny chickens!


Our chow Maxie was not phased at all by the snow. She took a nap in it. We did not get much at all, maybe an half inch to an inch.

Great pictures! Chickens really look pretty in the snow. Of course yours look pretty even without the snow. I am so ready for spring. I am done with winter. I want to start my garden!

She's not a meyer hen but I promised pics when the eggs finally hatched. One has hatched out and one is pipped.

Here are the mixed dozen eggs we received. I really hope some of them thrive!
There are a lot of EE mixes, bantam cochins, BLRW/Brahma mix, and an olive egger! We're most excited about seeing what comes out of the little blue eggs. They are an EE/Silkie cross. That's a cross my daughter has talked about doing before.

Yes, I'm so done with winter. We will be having good weather today, but expecting more snow next week. Ugh. Love all the chicken in the snow pictures.
